Even though he has made me cry again dammit.

at John Ash. Welcome to the world, wee man.

MmeLindt · 19/04/2010 21:19

Good luck, Madascheese.

We will be waiting with Champagne for your safe return with your DS.

Godspeed.

OmicronPersei8 · 19/04/2010 21:22

Congratulations to all the Boots, it must have been a very special day for you all. It's brought a tear to my eye, very happy that you're all together (including the new addition!).

NoahAndTheWhale · 19/04/2010 21:25

Congratulations to the boots family

HandbagAddiction · 19/04/2010 21:26

Hey Alibaba - do you know what time they are scheduled to land. I got a text from Tokyo saying they were leaving for Washington but can't for the life of me remember when they were due to land.

Very much hoping they get back before Friday and will be very happy if the UK airspace reopens tomorrow - they might then make it direct rather than via Madrid. Dd's getting more and more upset now and I just plain lonely!

Have an understanding boss, a very flexible nanny and some good friends but since I work full time, have an hour and half commute each way and this is week 2 - I'm getting just a little fed up!!!

HandbagAddiction · 19/04/2010 21:38

Just got a call from DH, they've safely landed in Washington - hooray!!

Sounds like they had a blast in Tokyo for a few hours whilst waiting for the next flight - it's turning into a right old adventure!!

MmeLindt · 19/04/2010 21:43

GVA reporting that Swiss airspace will open tomorrow, 20th April at 8am

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/04/2010 22:22

This is my favourite MN thread in months, I think! Love it.

Congratulations, MyBoots and family! What a wonderful ending.

DH should be crossing the Spanish border into France about now, in his enormous convoy (initial party size of 63 now swollen to about 85). Headed for Le Havre, fingers crossed he gets there in time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/04/2010 22:27

to be aware, some doubt over tomorrow.
ever so sorry chaps, hope this doesn't cause fresh problems

Northernlurker · 19/04/2010 22:27

Madascheese - that sounds like your ex is feeling more co-operative. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and wish you an uneventful journey.

Handbag - great to hear your dh is on the East coast now - that feels a lot closer than Tokyo etc doesn't it?

Northernlurker · 19/04/2010 22:29

OYBK - oh bugger!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/04/2010 22:39

Handbag I got a call aswell - DH is sounding much more cheerful! The company are apparently looking at options to try and get them home sooner, but the backup solution is a ferry from Bilbao arriving Portsmmouth Monday. I think they just all want to get pissed on a boat for 12 hours

Very pleased they have made it this far, Washington feels a lot closer than KL!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/04/2010 22:44

Madascheese - good luck for your trip, shall be thinking of you. Glad ex realises he needs to co-operate.

OYBK - gah, what a nightmare this is. I don't think that will affect DH unless it blows a lot further south but I guess it keeps all the trains and ferries fuller than they might have been.

I read earlier than Eurostar are putting on extra trains, not for a couple of days yet but it could help some of you who are on your way north through Europe.
Pollyanna - if you don't make your Thursday train they may let you switch your ticket?

I am going to go and pour myself a glass of vino to toast Baby Jonathan

Monty100 · 19/04/2010 23:20

Myboots and Mr Myboots - I was going to post last night

'Ohmigod and there's gonna be a baby born in the middle of it all'

then later I was thinking

' if the baby is born wouldn't it be lovely to call it after one of the next door neighbour's parents' and I was even wondering what GG stands for.

But, biggest congratulations to you all and also to GG and Granpa Jon, what an unforgettable thing you did.

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 20/04/2010 00:18

Congratulations to the Boots'es!!
MadAs - I am glad to hear things are wokring out.

I am still stuck. We have been moved from our hotel to one in JN Malaysis for three days then back to Singapore after that. There are conferences happening and we ar ein the way.

Lots of kids here so I have started up a babysitting service!

Now, not that I really need assistance but is it just me or has the media hype been all about those stuck in Europe. What about those of us who are farther away? I realise that nothing can be done but a mention in the news woudl be nice .

Qantas is being brilliant though. Lots of airlines are doing bugger all.

Monty100 · 20/04/2010 00:22

Lou - thinking of you. Are you being looked after? How did your charges parents get on today??

Hope you're ok.

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 20/04/2010 00:26

Hi Monty

Not heard from the bosses but since I have not had desperate calls from the kids all must have been ok.

We are being looked after very well by Qantas. In a hotel in JB in Malaysia now. I am in my king size bed overlooking the pool

CountessDracula · 20/04/2010 00:33

We are stuck in New York
Anyone else? - we could meet up in central park!

arcticwind · 20/04/2010 00:51

Some amazing stories on here and congratulations to the 'Boots' family and Jonathon Ash

Makes me realise I am lucky to have dh back - he was supposed to fly back from Helsinki on Saturday afternoon.
In the end he spent 3 days travelling through Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Belgium; left Finland on Friday morning, got trains, ferries, a bus and finally I had managed to get him a Eurostar ticket for first thing today from Brussels. After a meeting in London this am he was home at 5pm
And thankfully the ash will stop him flying off again until at least Thursday (he has to be somewhere for the weekend so will go via Madrid if he has to but at least we will have a few dyas with him

tjtheminx · 20/04/2010 04:18

mybootses congratulations, I have been following this thread since Friday and had wondered if babyboots was going to make an appearance. Great to hear all the family together again.

madascheese best of luck for tomorrow

Luckily I don't have anyone stranded but I am due to travel transatlantic (JFK to Dublin) on Friday.

Even if the flights resume I am getting more and more concerned about travelling. I am getting the vibe from this side of the pond ( not that there's much news about this in the US) that the economic pressure from the airlines might get the flight paths opened up before it is safe to do so??.

I don't absolutely have to travel and I am 28 weeks pg and will be travelling alone.
Delta have offered to change my flight dates to a few weeks time but pregnancy-wise I think this is my last chance to travel before the baby is born.

I am considering asking for a refund - at least then there will be another seat for a stranded passenger if the flights are actually going on Friday.

Am I just being hormonal or should I cancel?
Any thoughts

By the way, mrslindt you are an inspiration

Madascheese · 20/04/2010 04:29

Thanks All.

Operation Munchkin Rescue is now Go and I may see Portofino for a BIG BEER in Brussels later.

x

springaporesling · 20/04/2010 05:47

Lou am in Singapore. Not sure I can be of much help but have an empty flat (we're in the process of moving) and spare room in new place - although full of cardboard boxes at the moment. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance though. We just got back from DB's wedding in Leeds last Wednesday - I can't tell you how relieved I am now!

Barry, that's bad. We are both teachers stranded, and there's no talk of docking pay for us. He should contact his union.
