Have just heard an unconfirmed report on the radio. Anyone else?

OP posts:

the East London mosque seems to have been evacuated because they recieved a call saying that there is a bomb in there. They have been receiving threats since the first tube bombs so have to take this seriously.

fee77 · 22/07/2005 11:17

ohhhhh you are all quicker than me

TwinSetAndPearls · 22/07/2005 11:18

I can remember our house being searched by police once as we overlooked the hotel the conservatives had booked for a conference and our surname was the same as an infamous IRA bomber.

Not a nice experience at all.

binkie · 22/07/2005 11:18

I think the thing is that two weeks ago didn't frighten Londoners enough for them - so they had to try for yesterday to keep the momentum going, and now are still trying to keep going. That, plus perhaps as of yesterday they feel (I do hope rightly) they're being closed in on, so this is last stand stuff.

WideWebWitch · 22/07/2005 11:19

How terrifying. That poor man Scummy. Shooting someone who is on the ground seems, well, unnecessary but I guess none of us has the facts. Surely the police will release a statement soon though?

Springchicken · 22/07/2005 11:19

I am not in the slightest bit racist and can honestly say that the thought of all these innocent Muslims or Muslim looking people being targetted out of hate makes me feel sick ......but.......I can honestly say, hand on my heart, that if i went to get on a tube or train and saw what i believed to be a Muslim person who happened to have a rucksack with them i would not get on it.

Horrible thought but it's the truth, there is no way i would get on, not now!

Our house was raided by armed police one new years eve. My uncle was staying and had the same name as someone who had shot a policeman in London. They cordoned off the village we lived in - this was the 70's and everyone was arriving home after new years eve parties having been drink driving!

dillydally · 22/07/2005 11:20

I for one give the police the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise as both they and the forensic supporting team have been doing a great job dealing with this in my own humble opinion.
I am big enough to eat my words later on.

QueenOfQuotes · 22/07/2005 11:20

what about if you saw a black man with a rucksack Spring chicken??

One of the 7/7 bombers was black.

Fio2 · 22/07/2005 11:20

the police have surrounded a mosque in east london it says on the news

WideWebWitch · 22/07/2005 11:20

Springchicken, I assume you don't live in London then? That's very sad.

Kelly1978 · 22/07/2005 11:21

lol dinosaur

seriously tho, my dp is Indian and it is horrible for Asian men to be viewed with suspicion all the time because of these incidents.

zubb · 22/07/2005 11:22

fio2 - that seems to be due to a bomb threat against the mosque.

Springchicken · 22/07/2005 11:22

Dino, i know and i am not particulaly pleased to say it. The police have mentioned how many more people there are walking the streets of London since the first bombings 2 weeks ago.

QoQ, as i said, not in the slightest bit racist and despise people who are but only being honest, would definitely make the think twice about getting on it.

flamesparrow · 22/07/2005 11:22

East London Mosque - qhitechapel highstreet

QueenOfQuotes · 22/07/2005 11:23

well you'd better not go out - last I heard there were large numbers of asian AND black's living in london. I doubt you'd find a train or bus very easily in London without at least one of one of those races on it...

Fio2 · 22/07/2005 11:23

how would you 'know' they were muslim springchicken

Yes, it's the big East London mosque in Whitechapel High St - right by the hospital where I work . It's surrounded by police and they're asking local people to stay home.

this is unbelievable.

No WWW, i don't live in London, I'm from Luton which is about 30 mins away.
I do go into London quite alot for meetings and members of my immediate family are there on a daily basis so i know how "unreasonable" my comment must sound.

This whole scenario has changed the way i have been thinking completely, i actually felt uneasy and voulnerable walking through my town centre on Thursday, something which i have never done in my life.

flamesparrow · 22/07/2005 11:25

Muslim foster placement was with us during 9/11 - and she had enough hassle then, I dread to think how it will be for her now it is in our country.

dyzzidi · 22/07/2005 11:26

I think tensions are high all over the UK I am in Central Manchester and GMP are on high alert. I would look at anyone with a backpack in a cautious way regardless of their race. You also get white, black and asian extremists. My heart goes out to all innocent people who are being victimised.

WideWebWitch · 22/07/2005 11:26

A lot of 'Asian' people are hindu/other religions springchicken. And muslims, even fanatical ones, can be white. It's so sad that these bombings increase racism and it suddenly seemingly becomes ok to say it.
