Sorry - unable to copy/paste links atm.

But basically the house was broken into, the family were beaten and went through a six hour ordeal before the kidnappers left with the child who was on holiday with his father.

They are demanding a £100000 randsome.

well i have been bothered about it, but to Rhubarb's point, the madeleine case we felt could have been any of us. we all go to the med on holiday. mark warner is a popular destination. not getting into the leaving the kids alone thing, but we can all empathise and see how this could have happened to us.

Sahil - how many of us would go to remote Pakistan? it's not a situation we can relate to or feel "it could happen to us".

and there seems to be more to this than meets the eye.

  • Speculation that it is a put-up job (although there is NO evidence that has been cited as yet to say so - even the suggestion that someone close to the family could be involved could simply mean that they betrayed the family to criminals - a visitor from Britain perhaps being perceived as wealthy....)
  • Children having horrible lives in Pakistan is perceived as pretty normal, so less newsworthy
  • Negative feelings about the father: from questions about his taking the passport to how he can afford the flights / take the boy out of school have arisen in the comments in the press, on MN, everywhere.

I would be very surprised if a white child, from a white British Family received so little attention if kidnapped in Pakistan.

But in the end, neither press coverage nor idle speculation are a reflection of the importance of what has happened, and hopefully the powers that be are doing all they can to find Sahil and establish his safety.

However it's dressed up, it's racism.

giveitago · 10/03/2010 15:48

The father isn't doing himself any favours by coming back so fast?

Am I right in thinking that the investigation has actually gone cold now?

Blu · 10/03/2010 16:02

But we have no idea why he is coming back - it could be anything from coming to collect money for a ransome, to intending to hound his MP / the police / whoever to DO something, to be with his wife and dds fo a day or two, to escaping the Pakistani police....

There is so little info. It's going to be wait and see.

Poor poor little boy.

seeker · 10/03/2010 17:57

let's hope he's not expecting any support from the great British public.......

wannaBe · 10/03/2010 20:08

well, they confirmed on five live this evening that he has apparently flown back to the UK, but...

The family had no idea he was coming back.

They haven't spoken to him.

And they cannot understand why he would come back given his son hasn't yet been found.

And what if his son is found tonight? or tomorrow? and his father has gone?

Bizzare indeed - it's been, what, one week since Sahil was taken (less possibly?).

Megletwantsittobesummer · 10/03/2010 22:18

The dad isn't exactly doing himself any favours is he ? Hope they find Sahil soon .

giveitago · 10/03/2010 22:25

No he's not - BBC just now interview his relatives in Pakistan - they don't appear to know that dad has returned to UK!

seeker · 11/03/2010 06:12

Still don't get this. I think mumsnetters should be just a little ashamed of themselves.

2shoes · 11/03/2010 06:51

just been on the news that he has been found safe and sound
so pleased, poor lad

seeker · 11/03/2010 07:01

Not on Radio 5 or the bbc website.......

2shoes · 11/03/2010 07:08

they have said that he is with his father.....
this was on gmtv news

JollyPirate · 11/03/2010 07:11

Has he been found? Oh that's brilliant - haven't been following this thread but have been following the news. Oh I hope that is correct.

AnyFucker · 11/03/2010 07:13

apparently the boy is in the Uk with his father

how did he get him through the airport and customs ? In his suitcase ?

JollyPirate · 11/03/2010 07:14

In the UK!!!!!!!! That beggers belief - something dodgy going on then.

SuSylvester · 11/03/2010 07:16

no oyu misheard

SuSylvester · 11/03/2010 07:17

British Boy Kidnapped In Pakistan Found
Pakistan's Law minister has confirmed to Sky News that the British boy kidnapped in the Punjab Province - Sahil Saeed - has been found.

wannaBe · 11/03/2010 07:19

bloody hell.

probably he got him through because no-one knew he was coming back until he arrived.

How very odd.

OP posts:
JollyPirate · 11/03/2010 07:19

Thank goodness for that. Had believed all along that it WASN'T a family thing so suddnely hearing he was in the UK was not good.

AnyFucker · 11/03/2010 07:21

I didn't mishear that the boy was in the UK

It may have been misreported, but I did not mishear it

jimblejambles · 11/03/2010 07:22

Sky news reckon the little boy was reunited with his dad yesterday. The foriegn office have then flown both of them back to the UK. The strange bit seems to be nobody told his mum he had been found.

littleducks · 11/03/2010 07:24

Really glad he was found, hope he is in good health physically and mentally (tbh i have been hoping it was a family thing so he would be well cared for while gone)

Will be awaiting explanation with great interest though. Hope his mum has him with her now.
