The Daily Mail have done it again, but this time I feel obliged to comment on their awfulness. This article is frankly shocking: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1241635/Soldier-41-sex-girl-13-spared-jail-woman-judge-says- did-running.html?ITO=1490

The Judge in this case has a lot to answer for, but it was the Daily Mail who had the nerve to refer to the poor child as a 'Lolita' girl.

Watcha think?

Genius name, Garrylous- your best yet: punning, topical, and witheringly insulting all at the same time, I love it

nighbynight · 08/01/2010 20:39

Maybe he did make a one off mistake etc...he should pay for it. FGS, what does being an adult mean?

nighbynight · 08/01/2010 20:41

(lol at Garrylous.)

LittleWhiteWolf · 08/01/2010 20:41

That poor girl. She's been painted as troubled and she certainly does sound like it. My DH read the article and said this judge has basically given a big excuse to all men to allow them to have sex with whomever they want providing they use the excuse of "the girl/woman did all the running"

That judge should be struck off or whatever it is that happens to disgraced judges. That man should be in prison and should be on the risk to children register and the sex offender register as he bloody well broke the law in several ways yet blamed it all on a 13 year old girl.

That's brilliant, Stayfrosty. I think this case meets the criteria outlined. So we just need to complain to the Attorney General...

SolidGoldBloodyJanuaryUrgh · 08/01/2010 20:45

OK if it had been a 21-year-old man with actual learning difficulties, it might have been fair to say that he was not that much to blame, but this bloke was in the Army for years, is a functioning adult if not a very clever one... I wonder how many other incidents there have been in his past?

BitOfFun · 08/01/2010 20:47

We need a clever person to draft an email template...anybody up for it?

paisleyleaf · 08/01/2010 20:48

Just awful for his daughter too.

I do prefer it with the three "ffs" Quite apt.

Mine would read:

Dear Attorney General,

With reference to the Nigel Thomson case and the judge's remarks in the summing up: ffs ffs ffs!

Yours sincerely etc

MisSalLaneous · 08/01/2010 21:05

SF, great letter. I see your post now deleted, so hopefully all good. (I don't know you in rl - or on here, for that matter! )

Good grief. Garrylous is right to pick out that damning point about the pre-sentence report - clearly the implication of the judge's comment is that he should have faced a rather more severe sentence. He must have form.

Glad people are contacting the attorney general. She has reviewed horribly lenient sentences before and taken action - remember that poor lass with a learning disability who had been gang raped? Perpetrators got a longer sentence after Baroness Scotland intervened (although still not long enough, IMO).

Poor kid.

aSilverLining · 08/01/2010 21:08

my step sister begged the judge in her statement not to let our dad go to prison - it is a symptom of grooming fgs!

AS SGB says, he had a job in the army, mhe was not simple, he was also living with someone.

This poor girl sounds very troubled and I hope she is getting some support, I agree it makes you wonder about her upbringing - what 13yr old carries condoms around.

I slept with someone just before my 14th birthday, and even though he was same age as me I still regret it, and feel taken advantage of and a victim of my upbringing in that I had no boundaries or respect for my body.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/01/2010 21:19

She was in foster care (apparently, according to a poster above)
I know plenty of young women who were having regular sex at 13, all grew up in foster care, therefore, by definition all abused in various ways Usually sexually
