The Daily Mail have done it again, but this time I feel obliged to comment on their awfulness. This article is frankly shocking: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1241635/Soldier-41-sex-girl-13-spared-jail-woman-judge-says- did-running.html?ITO=1490

The Judge in this case has a lot to answer for, but it was the Daily Mail who had the nerve to refer to the poor child as a 'Lolita' girl.

Watcha think?

For pity's sake! He's a grown man, she's (evidently) a silly girl - even if she turned up in his bed naked with free beer all he had to say was no! Pitiful excuse and the judge is almost as guilty for letting him off so mildly.

IMO "girls that do all the running" after 41 yr old men tend to have suffered from some kind of abuse already. Not always. They, therefore, need more protection from the state and not less. This sentence gives out completely the wrong message.

He was 41 and knew she was 13 yet, despite knowing he could get into a whole heap of shit, still had sex with her.

Sorry about the link. First time poster and I didn't read the instructions. No typical man comments please.

To get the full awfulness of this whole situation, you have to remember that this 13 years old child had also been drinking. So, what we have here is a drunk 13 years old child taking advantage of a 41 years old man who didn't do very well in his chosen career. Really?

I don't care who does the running. She is 13, he is 41.

That is all there is to it.

40 year old female teachers that have had sex with 15 your old students have been put on the sex offenders register and sent to prison.

This is a despicable ruling.

BitOfFun · 08/01/2010 19:43

I have never been so shocked by a DM article, and that is bloody saying something!

I don't know where to begin with just how wrong this is, everything about it stinks- right down to the egregious excuse for justice doled out in court. A total disgrace.

BitOfFun · 08/01/2010 19:45

It says he was living with his girlfriend and her fifteen year old daughter at the time [flabbergasted]

AuntieMaggie · 08/01/2010 19:49

I am completely gobsmacked. That poor child.

I can't get over how angry I am. At 13 I was so seriously low and fucked up I could've so easily ended up in a situation like that and would've been too scared - no scratch that would've thought that I couldn't say no.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/01/2010 19:55

'This was not a breach of trust situation. Although she was vulnerable, you too in a sense, are vulnerable as you are a simple man.'

I feel like fucking SCREAMING at that comment. That was the judge! He's a paedophile!

wannatalk · 08/01/2010 19:58

things like this reinforce views that there is no point in telling anyone, and no one in authority is going to help you/ take you seriously.

If she did all the "running" - why did it end up in court.
She must have reported it/pressed charges.

mrwahwah · 08/01/2010 20:21

I am also struck by the absence of any mention of the sex offenders register. Surely his name should have been placed on it?

Mumsnet is an interesting place. I am surprised that a story like this, and the way in which it was reported, doesn't raise as much outrage as the recent advertising campaign by the OAA. It seems to me that this is as much about sexism as that was, only more so, because a poor child is actually suffering the consequences of the sexist attitudes of the Judge, or whatever it is when the perp is a woman, and the newspaper.

OP posts:
MissRabbitLive · 08/01/2010 20:29

That's fucking outrageous
And what wannatalk said too.

Garrylous · 08/01/2010 20:30

hmm
you never know the whole case unless oyu were there of course and you dont knwo what the probation reports said.

once incident of sex plus grooming..
what wold you all sentence for it?

interesting it says she said

"'Despite conclusions in your pre-sentence report, I regard this as a one-off incident that arose out of a particular relationship with a particular girl."

were they reccying he was a habitual paedophile?

its disgusting.

no 13 year old girl "does all the running" they flirt a bit because they are just learning how.

how on earth can an adult man who has no peadaphilic tendancies not have the self conrol to say go away and grow up.

the judge should be stepped down and the soldier should be well, treated like the child molester that he is

Garrylous · 08/01/2010 20:33

ah he plead guilty
hence the reduction.

i wonder if he is a bit thick - hence simple.

BelleDameSansMerci · 08/01/2010 20:37

Ridiculous regardless of plea. He's the adult. The full responsibility for this rests with him and his decision. I am shaking with anger about this. I was going to say that it's unbelievable but, sadly, it isn't, is it?
