Liz Jones; is it a joke?

I have just read Liz Jones's latest about her lonely Christmas. Apologies if this has been asked before, but I want to know how much truth there is because she sounds very low to me. I felt guilty after Diana died because I had been following her exploits. Does any body know whether she is joking/exaggerating or not? I will feel dreadful if she tops herself and leaves a dramatic last piece for the Mail on Sunday.

I have asked the only person I know on Exmoor but they only know what they have read in the Mail/

she has siblings? and none of them invite her? speaks volumes.

MrsSantaChemist · 23/12/2009 23:27

I agree hatwoman, but helping her mother would require interaction with real life people, and we all know she pours scorn on everyone except her cats.

Whoever is looking after her mother probably wouldn't let her in, for fear of there being a rude column about them the next week.

I was thinking about this again - and the suggestion that she visit her mum or help out at a shelter is kind of pointless. if she was the kind of person to do either of those things then I reckon she wouldn't need to because she wouldn;t be alone iyswim.

MerryXmasMrsHenry · 23/12/2009 23:33

Oh good God. I've trawled through as much of that tripe as I can manage, which has left me with eyebrow strain from persistent exasperated raising, so I've bowed out.

Apart from her being a self-indulgent, superficial, prissy little oik, the thing that irritates me about this article in particular is that I know at least one woman of Liz's age who is genuinely very lonely. Thankfully she doesn't read the DM so she's unlikely to see this crap, but frankly I find it offensive that she should parody people in this way for a bit of extra cash at Xmas.

The funny thing is when she mentions things like her failure in relationships and then later on, unwittingly reveals just how utterly horrible she is, and you think: so your apparent loneliness is self-inflicted. Boo-hoo.

She is offensive, isn't she? Just being Liz Jones is itself like an act of terrorism against the sensibilities of those of us with brains. Ugh.

i can't believe that is an actual article.

Great article

Oblomov · 24/12/2009 08:04

Great article. poor old ben fogle - he's not that bad, can't be compared to HER ! and michael macintyre i find funny - mind you i do love the impressionists impressions of him being very dramatic and ott, and i think thta would have got on your nerves by the time you'd had your brussels.
But still not as bad as her. no one can be compared to her. what a fab article.

MummyTumble · 24/12/2009 08:30

what a pain in the ass she is.....£25 minimum bottle of wine, £10 on toothpaste...large family that want nothing to do with her....slagging off families and making out they don't have happy get togethers at xmas.

it's a flippin' disgrace that this women gets paid to write a column and have such a job....

Nancy66 · 24/12/2009 10:36

Hatwoman - she is going to spend Christmas day at a homeless shelter.

Loads of people emailed her telling her she should and she is.

hatwoman · 24/12/2009 10:52

I second everything everyone else has said!

Nancy66 · 24/12/2009 15:09

...or she'll marry one of them.

FunnyLittleFrog · 24/12/2009 15:44

I wonder if the homeless shelter Christmas dinner will contain those horrible 'big potatoes' they sell at the Co-op and that poor people have to eat.
