Liz Jones; is it a joke?

Kirkers · 21/12/2009 14:05

I have just read Liz Jones's latest about her lonely Christmas. Apologies if this has been asked before, but I want to know how much truth there is because she sounds very low to me. I felt guilty after Diana died because I had been following her exploits. Does any body know whether she is joking/exaggerating or not? I will feel dreadful if she tops herself and leaves a dramatic last piece for the Mail on Sunday.

I have asked the only person I know on Exmoor but they only know what they have read in the Mail/

Gosh, do you think that you might have caused Diana's death- is that what you are telling us? Were you following her on a motorcycle?

MarthaFarquhar · 21/12/2009 14:11

I worry about her wellbeing too.

Liz, if you're reading this, (and you do strike me as a self-googler, so there is the possibility) consider yourself invited.

I do have coloured lights on my tree, and no table theme, which may affect your decision.

Heqet · 21/12/2009 14:11

Who's liz jones?

Why did you feel guily about diana (I assume you mean the princess?)

Are you ok? Sometimes if you're not feeling too great yourself, you can have such kind of thoughts and feelings about people you don't even know.

louii · 21/12/2009 14:11

I thought she was a made up person, but apparently she is real, dear god why would anyone give her column space?? Never mind her topping herself, reading it makes me want to!

MollieO · 21/12/2009 14:12

Link?

choosyfloosy · 21/12/2009 14:13

Well, you could drop her an email via the Mail offices and invite her for Christmas?

Liz Jones may well be lonely but she has a great outlet for talking about it via the Mail. More than most lonely people have.

I have to say I think her column is about 98% fictional so I wouldn't worry too much.

Diana died because she didn't do up her seatbelt. Best thing we can all do re that is to teach our children to strap in.

MarineIguana · 21/12/2009 14:14

I have heard (on here probably) that she does exaggerate it all for effect. Obviously it doesn't look like she's having a great time, and she seems to be losing the plot, but the same goes for lots of people.

The people she works for at the Mail must know her and they print this stuff. It's between them. You can't feel bad if something happens to her!

BitOfFunderthemistletoe · 21/12/2009 14:22

Here it is

I haven't read it yet, but I am howling at her recycling that photo of herself spending a week as a "poor person", in her full rags costume of shredded jodphurs

MarineIguana · 21/12/2009 14:27

In fact maybe she will be living it up at claridge's or similar with a gaggle of other single meeja types, cackling over how much they rake in for whinging about their lives once a week

TheGoatofChristmasPast · 21/12/2009 14:29

good grief

Tizzyjacko · 21/12/2009 14:33

What a load of bollocks! Moaning about having no friends locally when she publically slagged them off in her column as being boring and ugly. She provided the answer to her "problem" in that her best christmas was spent helping out at the cats home. Nothing stopping you from doing similar this year.

Mad as a bucket of frogs....

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 21/12/2009 14:34

I felt a bit sorry for her after I read that. But then I thought, ok, so exmoor hasn't worked out and you have a bazillion animals, but why not sell up, and move to a village near london where the locals don't hate her and she can get in to london when she likes. Ta da!

TheGoatofChristmasPast · 21/12/2009 14:36

she needs to ditch the cats.

choosyfloosy · 21/12/2009 14:36

she sounds all right to me!

kirkers, like hequet said, hope YOU feel all right at the moment.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 21/12/2009 14:41

I wonder if her cats will eat her when she tops herself..

Tizzyjacko · 21/12/2009 14:42

AF

Kirkers · 21/12/2009 14:57

I wanted to know whether or not she was living it up at Claridges or it was real. I know she must be well paid etc and lots of people aren't but she sounds desperate. Yes, I assume that the Mail have some sort of duty of care to her. After Diana died because she wasn't wearing her seatbelt, I have to admit I was one of the people buying whichever tabloid carried her latest exploits. I was breastfeeding at the time and it was an enjoyable soap opera and she died (because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt) and it wasn't fun anymore.

But following LJ's exploits could hardly be described as "fun" even now, could it? At least Di was having a ball.

diddl · 21/12/2009 15:14

I´m sure most of it was made up.
And it´s not as if she doesn´t have family at all-she has sister(s) doesn´t she?

notwavingjustironing · 21/12/2009 15:14

But she openly admits that no-one's standards are as high as her own, we drink the wrong coffee, buy the wrong wine, wear the wrong cashmere - how can she possibly be surprised that non-one wants to spend any time with her?

She's publicly slagged off all her neighbours, she wrote about her husband intimately and disparagingly in a national newspaper, she's insulted her friends and she's forever banging on about animals being better than people.

Well sorry love, what goes around comes around, and if you can't be arsed to make the effort with other people without sneering and looking down your nose at them, don't sit there looking like Cinderella missing the ball with your ragged (no doubt designer, artfully distressed) jods on in a national newspaper. Get off your backside and go and do something for a living that doesn't involve moaning.

Tizzyjacko · 21/12/2009 15:16

Kirkers i honestly think you don't need to worry about her. Her career is built on whinging about how awful her life is. She is really rather ridiculous. Find the article where she tried to live like a pauper for a week if you want a laugh (i think there was a NMN thread about it). I'm sure you will feel less worried.

diddl · 21/12/2009 15:27

Wasn´t one of the reasons she divorced her husband that he never bought her presents costing 200GBP or more?

Kirkers · 21/12/2009 15:28

You are all right. Every other example I have thought of (Britney, Amy, Kerry Katona) has (imho) had whatever they were going through, exacerbated by the media attemtion (or hounding?). They have been made the butt of cheap jokes on Dave. LJ is not, as far as I know, being hounded at all. Btw, she makes me feel BRILL about my Christmas. Is that the point?

OP posts:
mrsruffallo · 21/12/2009 15:39

Well, according to that article she has six siblings and a mother still living, and lots of extended family I imagine.
I think it's nonsense and actually rather cynical
