I don't know what the truth is, but the media have behaved appallingly.

Bucharest · 03/12/2009 19:04

Remember too that this trial won't even be the final one. If they are found guilty there will in all probability 2 further different courts looking at the case and raking it all over.

I don't know which one of the 3 did the actual murder, but all 3 were in up to their necks. The most "innocent" is the one who has already 'fessed up. Both sets of lawyers (Sollecito's and Knox's) spend all their time confirming Guede's guilt (well d'oh, illegal immigrant black man, never had any chance of getting off/being found innocent did he?) and also slagging off the other one.

Sollecito's lawyer and family, and the interviews he is allowed to give to the press make my skin crawl.

Meredith's dad John is a lovely man - I feel so sorry for them. No idea if Amanda Knox is innocent or guilty but she certainly comes across as a very disturbed and unlikeable individual. Her family have behaved disgracefully too.

Sagacious · 03/12/2009 19:06

Blimey Bonsoir are you on the ricard or summat?

NanaNina · 03/12/2009 19:30

I don't have any idea either whether Amanda Knox and her boyfriend are innocent or guilty - not sure how anyone can know, just from what we have read or seen on TV. What have her parents done Nancy as you say they have behaved disgracefully?

expatinscotland · 03/12/2009 21:33

Nancy, there's another MNer who is related to Meredith Kercher's family.

I gave her the web address of a site John Walsh set up after his son was murdered, called Parents of Murdered Children.

It's a club no one wants to join, but has given load of support to a friend of my mother's who was in a similar situation and she's now a mod on there and does a lot of work in the community with National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Georgimama · 03/12/2009 21:37

Bonsoir operates on another plane to most of us. I refer to her thoughts on Roman Polanski as previous in this arena.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 03/12/2009 21:41

bonsoir is a looney toon IMO

I wonder if she writes love letters to blokes on Death Row ?

thisisyesterday · 03/12/2009 21:47

i read an article by amanda knox's mother and of course you never know whether what you read is true or not, but it did sway me a bit to think maybe she wasn't involved.
i dunno

agree though, it's gone on and on and on amd it's so sad

expatinscotland · 03/12/2009 22:10

'I wonder if she writes love letters to blokes on Death Row ?'

Only if they are 'beautiful'.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 03/12/2009 22:16

the whole thing is awful, there was a piece in vanity fair that suggested the case against knox was far from compelling. from what i know about the italian justice (family friend is a top judge) it's a funny old system, hard to escape local politics.

expatinscotland · 03/12/2009 22:23

sollecito's family is very well-connected and wealthy, too.

poshsinglemum · 03/12/2009 22:32

I really don't know what to make of Foxy Knoxy but I do know that the media have made a big old hash of it.

She is a bit wierd but then mabe we would be if our flatmate was murdered.

expatinscotland · 03/12/2009 22:38

She's from Washington State, of course she's weird.

Duh.

[runs in case by some fluke her best friend from Olympia reads this]

selectivememory · 03/12/2009 23:02

I think the whole thing is so awful. I have a daughter her age who was abroad for a year and it is so dreadful. I can't imagine what either of the families are going through. It must be absolurely horrendous for everyone involved.

I tend to think Knox prob did do it but under the influence of drink and drugs and so probably wasn't premeditated. She is also very much 'an American abroad'.

Suspect she might get off though, what with her lawyer doing all that crying etc. and her looking so 'beautiful'. Oh dear.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 03/12/2009 23:06

Is Bonsoir the same one who thought it ridiculous that Roman Polanski was arrested for raping a child?

It's a messy case - nothing seems conclusive? Although from what I've read/seen, Ms. Knox does behave strangely but then I guess she's under a lot of strain.

Verdict expected in a couple of days.

expatinscotland · 03/12/2009 23:12

'She is also very much 'an American abroad'.'

Not anymore.

And if she did have a hand in it, then so did Sollecito.

chegirlwithbellson · 03/12/2009 23:14

I havent followed the case closely.

It did seem the media had Knoxy guilty from the get go. She seemed to fit their idea of a good story. Young, sexual, not hidious blah blah.

The fact she was named foxy knoxy says such a lot really.

This crap gets in the way and can only make things worse for the poor murdered girl's family.

It trivialises their pain by making it all about the story and how it titilates.

That child was slaughtered. The papers have made it into a sordid sex romp.

Wankers.

I am confused as to why many on this thread seem to think Amanda Knox is innocent - surely if she was innocent she wouldnt be so "lacking in seriousness" (I couldnt think of a better word/phrase) about it all.

If I was falsely accused of murder I wouldnt be messing about and courting the media in the way that Knox seems to.

Just my interpretation......

I had assumed until reading this thread that general opinion was that she and solleticio (sp?) were guilty

chegirlwithbellson · 03/12/2009 23:28

I have no idea if she is guilty or not laura. But tbh I wouldnt judge guilt by how someone acts.

We do mad stuff when under pressure. You could argue that if she was guilty she would be putting on more of an innocent act IYSWIM.

She may have mental health issues, she could be in shock, she could be guilty and cocky enough to think she will get away with it. Who knows?

Its a bit like those who said Madeline's mum must have done 'it' because she was always made up and wore matching jewelery. People imagine how they would act in a given situation.

Not a dig at you BTW - just expounding on a pet subject

LauraIngallsWilder · 03/12/2009 23:33

Hi chegirl - expand away!
This isnt one of my pet subjects so I am jumping to conclusions from afar!

Having just read various news reports about it and watched several news videos of her - I swung widely from guilty to not guilty and back again

I know for certain that at the most stressful points in my life thus far I didnt do repeated cartwheeels - which she apparently did when first taken to the police station

Her mother and sister seem lovely which surely must count in Amandas favour, by association?

All very interesting - I await the verdict with interest

chegirlwithbellson · 03/12/2009 23:39

Cartwheels are certainly bonkers but would they point to guilt or just bonkersness?

Do you remember the case of the nanny accused of shaking the baby to death in the USA. I think her name was Louise? She got a lot of stick for looking guilty. She was impassive in the dock and the US media didnt like it at all.

She was eventually freed.

We do seem to expect our accused to behave in a certain way, specially young female suspects.

Their looks seem to make a difference too. Too attractive = dangerous siren, plain = sexual deviant etc. Though being attractive can work in ones favour.

I know no more than you Laura so your guess is as good as mine.

BitOfFun · 03/12/2009 23:46

That was Louise Woodward- I remember that.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 04/12/2009 07:53

Apparatnly the police said they'd heard she could do cartwheels and asked her to show them.

People say that cartwheels isn't the normal behaviour of someone who's flatmate has just been killed but is it the behaviour of someone who's just killed another person either?

As for buying underwear - she wasn't allowed into the flat so had to buy stuff.

I don't really see Knox courting the media. She seemed quite serious and shaken up earlier on this week. Apparantly she's on suicide watch in prison.
