Her parents are quite well connected in Seattle and have hired a PR firm. Not many accused of murder get such a positive slant.

Nancy66 · 04/12/2009 11:37

Female murderers are still pretty rare - so when one comes along it's newsworthy. If they're attractive, better still

ZZZenAgain · 04/12/2009 11:42

I would say AK looks quite plain, not unpleasantly so, but in no way particularly pretty. I'm quite surprised anyone finds her so but each to his own.

Going on the little I have read, I expect her to receive a life sentence. If she is found guilty, I expect she will also be found guilty of the other charge of false accusation (calumnity) and that carries up to 12 years imprisonment too. So she may be in Italy for a while yet.

I really have no idea what happened to that poor child Meredith but I do not have the total lack of confidence in the Italian justice system some people seem to have. I am fairly sure they are trying to handle this responisbly. The case has been heavily sensationalised and they would be fools if they were not careful how they handled the trial and gave a conviction without adequate proof.

Bucharest · 04/12/2009 11:47

There will be 2 further trials (appeal type things) even if they are both found guilty.

The fact that they were both kept in custody all this time suggests the police/lawyers have much more evidence that they are guilty than might seem at first sight.

Annamaria Franzoni, an Italian woman now serving 30 yrs (or life, can't remember) for murdering her son, was only remanded in custody at the very end of all the judicial procedure. The rest of the 3 or so years she was on telly spouting her innocence, showing reporters round the house and having another baby

BitOfFun · 04/12/2009 11:52

I find the adulation of her based on looks highly bizarre. Ok, she looks like a healthy young woman, but Audrey Hepburn she ain't. The way she has behaved during the trial has been odd to say the least, whatever the reasons behind it. The grins, the giggles and the thumbs up signs to her mates make her look insensitive in the extreme, and the seemingly cavalier attitude make her rather unattractive, if anything. I can sort of understand why the media cream their pants over a suspected murderess that can portray as a femme fatale, but quite why ordinary women on here have been sucked into that side of the coverage baffles me, frankly. Is that really the most remarkable element of the case? I don't think so.

Francagoestohollywood · 04/12/2009 12:01

But where's this woman adulated? I don't find she is here in Italy, but perhaps I read the wrong newspapers...

And thank you ZZZen.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 04/12/2009 12:02

AK has behaved in a bizarre way imo but I don't think that that indicates her guilt.

She appears to be an odd person - maybe she's not in RL - but I don't think anyone on this thread has suggested that indicates her guilt.

She ain't pretty either. Her eyes are sunken into her head. But that too is totally irrelevant to her guilt or innocence.

BitOfFun · 04/12/2009 12:05

Franca- Bonsoir on this thread has a girl crush by the soound of it, and I believe she has been sought after for photo-shoots and is making a movie in prison. I haven't seen the Grazia article mentioned here, but it all sounds in a similar kind of vein.

alwayslookingforanswers · 04/12/2009 12:08

BoF - I read that the movie was a officially funded project thing that she was taking part in with other prisoners

Francagoestohollywood · 04/12/2009 12:29

I was referring to the press salivating over the beauties of Miss Knox. I haven't noticed it much here in Italy, but again, I tend to read a left wing newspapers, which isn't that into gossiping!

Bucharest · 04/12/2009 12:43

and to nod sagely about the papers.

expatinscotland · 04/12/2009 12:54

No point in speculating on her degree of guilt unless you've been sitting in the court, IME.

As to the verdict, my guess is not guilty.

So again, heartfelt sympathy to Miss Kercher's family, who will never know what happened to their daughter that concluded in such a horrid end to her young life.

I remember the night of this murder.

I used to Mumsnet far more than I do now and I can remember another Mnetter was Meridith's lecturer from University and she posted on MN really upset about it. I felt for her that night

it's hard to say, really, dittany.

i've sat in courtrooms and was convinced the jury would go one way and they went another.

my mother has sat on several juries herself, in two cases that received a lot of media attention, and the verdict was different from what the media expected.

i guess it's the mentality of a murderer, but i can't imagine keeping it to myself if i knew at all what happened. it would eat at my conscience.

obviously the same isn't true of everyone.

We shall see. The jury has retired to decide its verdict.

Feenie · 04/12/2009 22:15

BBC are reporting that a verdict is due within the hour, everyone has been recalled to the courtroom.

LetThereBeRock · 04/12/2009 23:14

They've been found guilty.

phew

LetThereBeRock · 04/12/2009 23:21

26 years for Amanda Knox and 25 for Sollecito.

LetThereBeRock · 04/12/2009 23:24

I think it's the right verdict and I'm pleased that the ordeal of the trial is over for Meredith's family. I hope the media will leave them alone now, unlikely as that is.

expatinscotland · 04/12/2009 23:34

Now there is a verdict. Now I can write it.

I do not think the black man who is in prison had a hand in it.

I believe that Knox and Sollecito came to that house to get Miss Kercher to have a three-way with them, and when she refused, that they killed her.

I believe that she is the type of killer that I have known many times in the past and who thinks along lines which are far too uncomfortable for many.

And he is just the same.

Neither one of them will ever come clean, because they are sociopaths.

That is what the Kercher family have to deal with.

I hope that somehow, they can take away some peace from all this.
