Very good post Cory.

Because cory, I was illustrating how this kind of thing was still a part of peoples culture and beliefs because of the prophet's child bride.

In Iraq and Iran they still do have child brides.

That is the point I was making, that because of peoples religious beliefs, this kind of thing does go on.

Seems pretty irrelevant to this case, seeing that it has got nothing at all to do with religious beliefs and that the children have nothing at all to do with Muslim culture. Or do you lump all "other" cultures together?

There is no evidence that these young people are religious or that religion has anything to do with it. They had sex, without the parents' encouragement and she got pregnant.

What's so Other, from a British perspective, about a teenager getting pregnant? I thought that was what British teenagers did at quite a worrying rate.

The only cultural difference is that the family have allowed her to get married (presumably to save her from stigma), whereas a British teen would probably end up a single mum. But still far closer to the British experience imo than to arranged marriaged with child brides in Iraq.

PMSL Cory excellent post. Some people don't realise just how much closer to home these things actually are. They'd much rather pull in totally unrelated customs and cultures to feel superior.

I have a 9 year old DD to ZZZ and she is a young 9 to thank goodness still plays with dolls , plays cars with her DB to ..

Culture was mentioned in early posts on this and I was responding to them, not to feel superior or smug. People were asking if this kind of acceptance went on in "other" cultures and my response was that yes it does.

Fair point about British culture, however the girl in the OP is getting married, which is not legal in this country. But is legal in other countries, which I mentioned.

I fail to see how any of my posts can be construed as smug. I commented on things you thought were irrelevant, so what? It just shows how different people read things differently.

The word superior wasn't really appropriate I think. I did try to change it but it was too late and I had hit post. I do think you know my meaning though, Cory explained it much better than I could.

Btw, the 11 year old girl's marriage is not legal. Not even in the country she's in.

I know your meaning and I agree with cory's points. But it saddens me that you could even think I was trying to be superior on such a sad thread.

You are entitled to think my opinions are irrelevant, but at least have the courtesy to be polite with it.
