PMSL - but nothing surprises me when it comes to that programme!!

flum · 18/05/2005 12:15

yeah she'd had a c-section and was FINE whaaaaaaaaaaaat

puddle · 18/05/2005 12:15

I do agree with you PFP. I have posted before about this myth of perfect celeb motherhood perpetuated by Victoria 'I don't have a nanny' Beckham and Kate 'I had a caesarian and lied about it oh now I've had a natural birth its the greatest thing ever and I feel complete' Winslet. Wish they's all be quiet really. All down to the Heatification of parenthood as they descibed it in the Guardian today (in ANOTHER article about a cleb parent - Jools oliver this time)

flum · 18/05/2005 12:21

ooh link to Jools article please, now there's a long suffering wife. her hubby is home less than mine and thats saying something!!

puddle · 18/05/2005 12:26

Can't do links sorry! It's in the parenting section - about how dull Jool's book is re: detailing the minutae of motherhood written by a woman who's been boring on in a column about having her first child for the last few months "I'm so tired!!!!!" )

Furball · 18/05/2005 12:31

dream, dream, dream.........[smirk]

Gobbledigook · 18/05/2005 12:48

Anna Friel - now there's someone I'd like to punch in the face!

Never liked her and never really saw the attraction.

Now added to that, she's a complete bubble head!

flashingnose · 18/05/2005 12:52

jools article here

BethAndHerBrood · 18/05/2005 12:56

LOL at the bit at the bottom of the article - "don't buy the book, you'll only encourage them"!!!!

I just wondered if there was any possibility that Anna Friel was suffering from depression/denial in some form after her surprise pregnancy, and this was making her say what does sound like unrealistic twaddle.
I just think back to Zoe Ball and Kate Winslet and how both of them said stuff in the press that came across as deeply stupid while they were in fact under intolerable psychological strain.
Anna Friel especially has always really annoyed me but there could be more to this obsessiveness about fitness in pregnancy than meets the eye. I know someone in RL who talked a bit like this and she turned out to have been struggling with an eating disorder for several years

Tinker · 18/05/2005 13:04

Hmm, you could be on to something there Marina. She is incredibly thin.

oliveoil · 18/05/2005 13:06

Or we could just be overanalysing (sp??)....

Tinker · 18/05/2005 13:08

Or we're just bored...

Evesmama · 18/05/2005 13:09

IMO i think she may have a prob...instead of concentrating on herself and her bubba..its all about the money instead...she seems concerned she wont be able to get jobs when shes a mum and frightend of all things mumlike

excellent behaviour batters

dyzzidi · 18/05/2005 13:20

If she wants to lose the weight/ exercise after the birth I don't think anything of that. But surely to 'Start' an exercise regime and dieting while pregnant it irresponsible?

oliveoil · 18/05/2005 13:21

aaaaaaarrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

NomDePlume · 18/05/2005 13:22

batters - fabulous !

mrsflowerpot · 18/05/2005 13:27

I'm a snidey woman certainly , today at least as at 36 weeks pg I can only just stagger the five minutes walk to ds' nursery without wetting myself so I don't need to hear about how other people sail through being effortlessly glam.

I think that everyone should be cut major amounts of slack when pg or postnatal, whatever you think of them personally. But, I think that when celebs do this 'there's really no need to eat ice cream and let yourself go when you're pregnant' thing, they are setting themselves up as somehow better than the rest of us (and I speak as someone with a serious ice cream habit currently). And when they starve themselves afterwards and then try to say it's all down to good genes etc, it makes us feel bad and inferior and then I think it's only natural to want to snipe a bit, just out of defensiveness. I have a lot of time for Zoe Ball and her size 18 knickers comment, or even dare I say it Liz Hurley and her admission that she eats one meal a day, because it recognises that it is hard to get back to normal post pregnancy, and that it is normal to feel bad about yourself to some degree. If you want to pretend otherwise then fine, but don't be surprised when you get shot down for it. I know they are under pressure about how they look etc, but it doesn't help the rest of us feel any better about ourselves.
