people will say

it is only because Nadal wasn't there

expat..he got to the semi-finals 4 times.

expatinscotland · 19/06/2009 19:21

yes, and it seemed to take an interminably long time.

let's face it, andy murray may have a gurney face, but he's a better player than horse-faced LOSER Henman.

slayerette · 19/06/2009 19:25

Agree that McEnroe's commentary is the best by miles. I love Wimbledon!

seeker · 19/06/2009 19:28

He has pulled out

daftpunk · 19/06/2009 19:39

lol expat, agree murray is a better tennis player, and will probably win wimbledon .....but Henman was all we had (ok..there was GR but he wasn't the same)...you had to get behind him...and people did.....honestly wimbledon will never be the same without him.....murray will never take his place.....no one likes him very much.

expatinscotland · 19/06/2009 19:56

well, now that nadal's out, maybe murray will pull it off.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 19/06/2009 20:00

DP - when GR was first around people used to say he wasn't really English but I am sure they would have claimed him as there own if he had won.

Erm am I missing something? Is Federer not playing either?

Because if he is playing then Murray is going to get his ass handed to him!

I'm willing to put 50p on it

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 19/06/2009 20:03

He is still in but I am hoping he might be too busy with his new baby to turn up.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 19/06/2009 20:06

has his wife spawned yet?

daftpunk · 19/06/2009 20:07

FBG...yes, probably... he did get alot of support...just not as much as TH.

harleyd · 19/06/2009 20:10

i havent seen the odds...but mite be worth sticking a fiver on him just for the hell of it

raspberrytart · 19/06/2009 20:12

Just heard on R4 that Nadal is not playing

cocolepew · 19/06/2009 20:21

If Murray wins it'll be a British win, if he loses he'll go back to being Scottish.

daftpunk · 19/06/2009 20:23

murray will see it the other way around

Ceebee74 · 19/06/2009 20:24

Am about Nadal - it won't be the same tbh.

Have just googled and can't see anything to say Federer's baby has arrived yet - just says she is due this summer.

Now if she went into labour on the morning of the final, what do you think he would do?

WhipsAndFurs · 19/06/2009 20:45

I think he would choose to play but he would play like a bat of out hell to get the match over with!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 19/06/2009 20:53

My point exactly, cocolepew.

BunnyLebowski · 19/06/2009 20:55

Exactly coco! That's what really bothers me....it happened years ago when Stephen Roche won the Tour de France and some pillock of a british commentator celebrated the "british" victory.....hmmm.

slayerette · 19/06/2009 22:05

No Nadal

FAQinglovely · 19/06/2009 22:08

haven't read the whole thread - but those saying "nadal not playig is Murray's only chance" - seem to have forgotten that Murray has beaten Nadal, (and beaten Federer even more times).

wintera · 19/06/2009 22:30

I like Nadal but I do wish he would get his undergarments sorted out. He always seems to be picking them out of the crack of his arse!

expatinscotland · 19/06/2009 22:35

yeah! he should just skip the undergarments entirely.

Quattrocento · 19/06/2009 22:46

Why does anyone care whether or not they are british? Surely all we want to see is a bit of eye candy artistry on court. Shame about Nadal.

expatinscotland · 19/06/2009 22:47

exactly, quattro, and nadal was the godiva chocolate in a field of cadbury.

i'm gutted he's not playing!
