Story here.

Maybe they should just move?

Do you mean me Poppity . Or Lucia? I have new respect for Lucia and her scholarship too.

No. I have a merkin made from the hair of
Sindy/My Little Pony. A fake merkin I tell you.

GrimmaTheNome · 19/06/2009 21:44

[I did read lucia's post too. I think it said that the historical records about Jesus are as holey as a swiss cheese. But we all knew that really, didn't we, whereas not everyone knows what a merkin is.]

GrimmaTheNome · 19/06/2009 21:45

thats a real merkin made of fake hair.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 19/06/2009 21:45

That's interesting stuff, Lucia39 - I wonder why we still refer to religious zealots but not Nazirites/Essenes?

LupusinaLlamasuit · 19/06/2009 21:54

Oh alright, you got me. I'm covering my fake tadger with a marshmallow twist. Will that do?

Now be quiet and show me yours.

GrimmaTheNome · 19/06/2009 22:02

Nomes are shy and retiring creatures.

Poppity · 19/06/2009 22:09

Lupus, it was you this time! I am in awe of both of you actually, I always feel my lack of knowledge undermines my lack of faith iyswim.

A marshmallow twist btw, must be a supersize one with brains like that(grins but can't do that from inadequate phone)

Poppity · 19/06/2009 22:24

Oops, no it was lucia( damn phone ), sorry lupus, your posts have been v intellectual too, merkin excluded of course!

LupusinaLlamasuit · 19/06/2009 22:29

heh heh heh, I knew it, you traitor. My posts are just mostly incomprehensible. Except to unstrungharp whose measured and thoughtful responses I am cogitating on, so thanks

Oh no, don' t say that! I have enjoyed your posts, really. I wanted to say so earlier when you mentioned no-one had responded to one of them(but mp had).
However am v hampered in the typing dept today!
Anyhoo, end of suck up....(really need a smiley!)

Poppity · 19/06/2009 22:55

Just want to say in addition that I am really enjoying this, I' m glad that whenever it gets a bit tetchy someone manages to get it back on track. It's so nice to discuss these things without it all going down the pan!
I am learning loads, and it is so interesting to hear so many intelligent points of view.
(poppity hopes she doesn't kill the thread with all this arse licking congratulation)

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 19/06/2009 23:01

hmm, thought the elevated tone couldn't hold up on a friday night...

as you were...

Lucia39 · 19/06/2009 23:16

OldLadyKnowsNothing: Zeal in the service of the Lord - i.e. violence when it had a religious basis [inspired by Phineas see Judges 20:28]. The Zealots were Jewish insurgents/terrorists/freedom-fighters who opposed all non-Jewish overlords e.g. the Romans and the earlier Seleucids [who tried to impose Greek religion upon the Jews - hence the Maccabean uprising]!

The present day Islamist extremists reflect this antipathy to all governments that do not adhere to their own theocratic views. Christianity was the renegade child of Judaism and Islam is its grand-child.

That said, it begs the question: "Were Jesus Barabbas and Jesus of Nazareth possibly one and the same person?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 19/06/2009 23:24

Thank you Lucia39. I particularly like your phrasing of renegade child.

OP posts:
Poppity · 20/06/2009 00:35

Lucia, is that the prisoner who was supposedly chosen by the Jewish crowd to be freed?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 20/06/2009 01:03

.

OP posts:
ninedragons · 20/06/2009 03:05

Nah, Poppity, I think you're thinking of Roderick.

Poppity · 20/06/2009 06:32

Is the life of brian as contentious for religious people now as it was on release?

My parents have a sense of humour but they would find Life of Brian very offensive. Hey, I found it fairly crass, and I'm an aetheist!
