DIscuss.

OP posts:
bigchris · 03/05/2009 13:53

now I remember why it wasa restricted to one thread

Nancy66 · 03/05/2009 13:56

It's a huge story - and something that people actively discuss in the real world so why not on here? it's just healthy debate - everyone has a view. I can't see why people get so worked up about it.

bigchris · 03/05/2009 13:59

nor can I Nancy that's wy I don't get why we need so many threads saying the same thing

HecatesTwopenceworth · 03/05/2009 14:00

Did you mean "best OR the worst" or "best of the worst"?

It's a big story and people are talking about it. Not good, not bad, just people doing what people always have and always will do about something like this - get together, exchange opinions, speculate, argue...

I don't, cos I've nothing to say on the subject. i have my opinion, but I have only the news reports as my source and so I keep my mouth shut others don't and that's up to them.

People are always going to debate/argue/gossip about things. It's just human nature.

So it doesn't show ANYTHING about mumsnet - only about people.

lou031205 · 03/05/2009 16:23

No, it shows that one story can encompass many issues - What is responsible parenting, how 'acceptable' can be defined by race, culture, money & 'class', media interest, etc.

blinks · 04/05/2009 01:06

not the best, just the worst ie people clambering to be contentious.

Tortington · 04/05/2009 01:10

no. i think the best of the worst of mumsnet fekked off to moldies no?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 04/05/2009 06:22

5 months on and some still can't let go

awwww

PieceNharmoknee · 04/05/2009 06:54

custy

noddyholder · 04/05/2009 09:04

It shows how different we all are and encourages debate which is good.

Lulumama · 04/05/2009 09:05

it showed how polarised the debate was, did not seem to be much middle ground at all. it was better when it was on one thread

expatinscotland · 04/05/2009 09:06

what bigchris said.

piscesmoon · 04/05/2009 22:32

I don't call it debate-I call it witch hunting and it is horrible.

violethill · 04/05/2009 22:34

Agree piscesmoon

Nancy66 · 04/05/2009 22:38

I now withdraw my statement above - posted naively and before i got involved in the other thread.

Mumcentreplus · 04/05/2009 22:53
Hmm
scaredoflove · 04/05/2009 22:55

it shows the worst of censorship, don't know about anything else

BitOfFun · 04/05/2009 23:21

I think that slagging other parents off in the absence of any evidence of wrongdoing is in poor taste at best- I'm glad the thread was deleted.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 04/05/2009 23:23

leave m alone

violethill · 04/05/2009 23:23

Hear hear BOF

inscotland · 05/05/2009 09:10

What happened to the other thread?

izyboy · 05/05/2009 09:17

inscotland I notice that the thread you mantion is not on MN this morning. It was very vicious in parts so I hope it has been pulled.

inscotland · 05/05/2009 09:20

I thought I was going daft! Yes, it was very vicious and completely unecessary in parts. I wanted to read what other unfounded comments had been written. Probably a good thing that it has been deleted especially if anyone close to the family were reading.

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 05/05/2009 09:26

I think it should still be possible to say on mumsnet 2 things:

  1. That most harm done to children is done by their closest carers
  1. It is possible statistically (and the debate is around likelihood and possibilities and what happened that night) that the closest people to Madeleine McCann could have hurt her or killed her.

This does not mean that I think they did hurt/kill her but that I want to be free to talk about what is possible/likely to have happened.

izyboy · 05/05/2009 09:39

I understand your point Laurie but alot of it was spurious, nasty, uninsightful speculation. I tried to temper it by reminding certain individuals that the Mccanns should be considered innocent until they are proven guilty in a court of law. The reason I repeated this was because certain MNetters lack perspective on the Mccanns.
