Malawi court has turned her down because she did not adhere to the residency rules.

I'm sure she's got the most expensive lawyers on the case, I can't imagine she's going to give up.

mamadiva · 03/04/2009 10:55

Good just because she has money does'nt mean she can give a child a loving home.

Try sitting on your arse with your kids for 5 minutes Madge rather than employing a team of nannies for them to talk to.

Also note to celebs: NOT ALL ORPHANS LIVE IN AFRICA THERE ARE SOME IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY TOO!

Sorry that just irritates the hell out of me

ssd · 03/04/2009 10:56

at least someone has sense

nancy75 · 03/04/2009 10:57

the whole thing has been very unfair on the child, she seems to have been spending time with madonna, so has no doubt been told you are going to live with this woman, have a lovely house ect and now its not going to happen, as well as madges other kids being told here's your new sister, oh no maybe not.
i dont necesseraly think they have made the wrong decision but there must have been a better way for this to have been handled.

Stretch · 03/04/2009 10:58

I'm glad. Now lets watch as the 'celebs' move on to the next 'fashionable' must have item.

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 11:01

"i dont necesseraly think they have made the wrong decision but there must have been a better way for this to have been handled. "

well for starters she could have followed the residency rules.......

Flower3545 · 03/04/2009 11:04

Oh thank god for common sense at last.

I dread to think what this case has meant to the thousands of "normal" families jumping through every cruel hoop and over every tiny obstacle that ss dream up just to have a child.

Nancy66 · 03/04/2009 11:05

Good on the judge for having some common sense and not being impressed by her wealth and fame. The judge's name is Esmie Chondo - which suggests it being a woman, which would account for the common sense ruling!

Agree with nancy75.

Gunnerbean · 03/04/2009 11:11

Good - stupid woman.

Why doesn't she just make huge donations to charities working in the area instead if she really wants to help underpriveliged children? She'd help heaps more children in the long run by doing that.

She doesn't even strike me as the sort of woman who would be very maternal anyway.

Merrylegs · 03/04/2009 11:19

What I don't understand is why, out of all the, I guess, needy children, Madonna always seems to 'pick' the ones who still have family?

In this case, although the little girl's mother was dead, she still had grandparents and importantly, an uncle who did not want her to leave the country.

What is Madge's criteria for 'choosing' a child? Does she just see a random 'needy' cute kid, say 'Want that one' and expect it to be added to her entourage?

She seems more than a little unhinged, IMHO.

wannaBe · 03/04/2009 11:24

"NOT ALL ORPHANS LIVE IN AFRICA THERE ARE SOME IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY TOO". Really? I'd be interested to know where all the thousands of orphans are in this country just waiting to be adopted.

wannaBe · 03/04/2009 11:25

i don't disagree with the decision btw, but I do think that to suggest that there are countless orphans in this country just waiting to be adopted is totally misinformed.

yes there are children in this country awaiting adoption, but the majority have severe emotional problems as the result of abuse suffered, so miles off being just orphans.

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 11:29

and so therefore orphans from an orphanage in Africa won't have any emotional problems??

belgo · 03/04/2009 11:30

I wonder if the little girl's family only surfaced after they heard about the proposed adoption?

Upwind · 03/04/2009 11:30

Great. Serves Madonna right. Now that little girl will stay in the orphanage where she belongs and most likely live out her life in extreme poverty.

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 11:33

Upwind - not necessarily so - if Madonna still wants to help this little girl she can sponsor her (so she can be well fed, educated etc)

Stretch · 03/04/2009 11:36

Yes, lets rescue all them poor African children and bring them back to our country to save them. Lets not bother trying to help them help themselves and educate them and support their community for when they are older and to pass on what they have learned to other youngsters. No, lets just remove them all, that'll solve the problem

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 11:37

ahh stretch - I just came back to thread the to post exactly what you've just said - so I shall bugger off again

Gunnerbean · 03/04/2009 11:40

Upwind - don't you think that little girl and the other children in the orphanage would all have been better off if Madonna had bunged them some a shed load of money?

Why single one child out to go and live some fucked up existence with her?

Stretch · 03/04/2009 11:41

No, you stay and I'll go and do some (much needed) housework!!

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 11:41

The money she'll have spent on flights and hotel alone for this trip would support a child for years

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 11:41

no no no!!! I need to go and do some much needed housework

georgimama · 03/04/2009 11:45

Good.

Stupid, vacuuous woman.

georgiemum · 03/04/2009 11:46

Because of the residency? Not because she is too old by UK standard anway (don't they cut off at mid-40s?), single and never seens to be home for the other 3 anyway.

If she wants to 'save' a child, why can't she pour cash into the orphanages so that the poor children get and education and grow up to benefit their communities? I think that the poor child probably had a lucky miss there - sorry, but I don't see all that many pop stars, actors... kids growing up to be balances, normal, useful (think Paris Hilton). I would rather see the kid get a chance in life and grow up to srudy, be a doctor and make a real change in her community, not dragged halfway across the world on the whim of a very vary rich pop star.
