wotulookinat · 14/02/2009 11:14

I'm on it! I'm famous!!!

OrmIrian · 14/02/2009 11:15

Now that is quite amazingly lazy.

My DC are told categorically not to cut and paste from the internet in their projects

southeastastra · 14/02/2009 11:15

it's ok, xenia's comment is funny

fossa · 14/02/2009 11:15

she just copied and pasted me thinks!

wotulookinat · 14/02/2009 11:19

maybe she did just copy and paste, but I'm famous!

fossa · 14/02/2009 11:21

I don't think she copied and pasted that well, the horrible OH on the 'skirting boards' thread got a real roasting on here but that, and the real nastiness described by the OP, are softened in the qick recap.

That is some shameful shit right there, as Bunk Moreland might say.

alicecrail · 14/02/2009 11:22

Do you think we could all get paid to copy mumsnet?

nailpolish · 14/02/2009 11:25

omg! i am so proud!

might show dh but then he will know my nickname...

i am going to buy it and keep it forever

The 'journalist' didn't write anything in that article at all, as far as I can see! How incredibly lazy. Can I please just rip off a large section of this site and get paid for it??

harpsichordcarrier · 14/02/2009 11:29

lordy
what a rip off
shame they didn't include some of the threads that went mental

Don't they have to get permission from MN Towers and pay to use stuff from here?

wotulookinat · 14/02/2009 11:45

But I'm famous, albeit for 5 pointless words! Don't ruin it for me!
Nailpolish, I too am off to buy it. I have told DH because he knows my username anyway.
when will I, will I be famous...

LadyMuck · 14/02/2009 11:48

I think that it is a placed article to promote the book. Think of it as an advertisement, rather than an article. In the print section the book is pushed at the end of the article.

LoveaDAISYcal · 14/02/2009 11:48

can they do that? Don't MN have copyright? Did they sanction this?

It says something of the power of MN though that it hits the press so often.

incredibly lazy journalism though....now which MNer is a Times journo?

nannynick · 14/02/2009 11:50

Mumsnet owns copyright to all posts, so expect there MAY be a copyright breach - but it may just be an 'extract', so not sure if that is permitted or not. It's a bit like quoting from a book I suppose - if you acknowledge the source, then you can quote a small portion of it... is that how it works? (I'm not that knowledgeable on copyright issues.)

End of the day, it's publicity. A 2 page advert in the Times weekend supplement would cost what? Given the book launch was this week, it's probably to be expected that parts of Mumsnet.com would get quoted in articles.

I wonder how many non-mumsnetters will read the it, then visit the site to see what it is all about (thus generating additional advert impressions) and then register on the site thus adding to the membership.

LoveaDAISYcal · 14/02/2009 11:57

There's no mention of the Toddler book though and they aren't exactly toddler issues so I can't see it as an advertorial piece.

I'm sure MN love it if it generates more site traffic though

Littlefish · 14/02/2009 12:01

I'm famous too! However, like nailpolish, I can't show DH or he'll know my posting name.

However, I do think it's astonishingly lazy to just cut and paste direct from threads.

Not even an attempt to comment on it.
