Here

My God, what an arrogant and offensive tosser! There is no need at all in my opinion to refer to a person's nationality and / or disability in relation to their ability to do a job well.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 06/02/2009 16:42

HE'S GOT TWO EYES! He just can't see out of one!

mrsruffallo · 06/02/2009 16:43

How we would chortle if he came to tea

doggiesayswoof · 06/02/2009 16:43

I take it you're not Scottish yourself then, mrsmalumbas?

DumbledoresGirl · 06/02/2009 16:44

No I don't think it is ok to have a dig at people's disabilities. I think that is the third time I have said it now on this thread.

Is it ok for the Scots and the English to dig at each other on the basis of nationality? Umm, well, both sides do. I don't really find it offensive. We are a nation of mixed races and mostly I feel the rivalry is harmless.

Now, I am sorry to leave you, but dh has just come home and this bloody woman driver is going to brave the snow and take his car to Tesco as my car's battery has died. So I am not running away, but RL calls.

expatinscotland · 06/02/2009 16:44

Yeah, all his digs at women he gives out on his show are so funny, too! Just want I want my kids to hear over tea.

DumbledoresGirl · 06/02/2009 16:45

Most of us rise above it Expat. I am sure you do too.

expatinscotland · 06/02/2009 16:46

Why not invite John McCrirrick, too? Then you wouldn't even have to open your mouth at all with the two of them blethering for Britain.

expatinscotland · 06/02/2009 16:47

Rise above what, DG? Thinking it's okay to insult someone based on their nationality and disability?

No, sorry, I don't see where it's noble to just let something like that lie, because that's the same as condoning it, IMO.

mrsruffallo · 06/02/2009 16:47

That's a lot to rise above, Expat

doggiesayswoof · 06/02/2009 16:48

I do rise above it, like I said way down the thread I wouldn't waste energy getting offended by him.

But this comment is lame and crass and brainless, nonetheless, just what you would expect from JC

Saltire · 06/02/2009 16:53

Well yes, some Scots and English do "take the piss" out of each others nationalitys. I ahve been at Murrayfiled before during a Scotland England game - in 1990, Grand Slam year.
But I think what Clarkson said was said in a having a dig kind of way, not as a friendly piss take IYSWIM.
Look at Andy Murray, now when he was 12 (or possibly 18) he said a comment about supporting whoever England were playing. And my God did he (and he still does) get ripped to shreds by the english based media. They didn't like it, yet it was said in jest, and is said by many Scots every time theres Football on.
However Clarksons comments were said to insult, yes GB is a Scot, and he has 2 eyes not 1, but the comments were said in a derogatroy manner

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 06/02/2009 17:13

"If he was English, JC wouldn't have said 'one-eyed English idiot'

He was not merely describing him, he was insulting him
"

Actually he may well have done 'cos he was in Australia talking to Australians. He maybe thought they would need a bit more info.

doggiesayswoof · 06/02/2009 17:16

Yeah right, stripeyknickers, JC just wants to educate our Australian friends

That's so true saltire about Andy Murray

He is struggling to build up any kind of fan base eg at Wimbledon because the media have it in for him big time

mrsruffallo · 06/02/2009 17:18

But Saltire, I remember that comment and found it very distasteful at the time

AbbyLubber · 06/02/2009 17:25

I am so tired of these twunts who make a living out of being rude and behaving badly. JC is sooo blokeish and not remotely funny. Well up himself, if you ask me.

Saltire · 06/02/2009 17:26

Yes, a lot of English people did, but the point I am trying to make is that Andy Murray's comment was made in a "trying to be funny" way, banter that goes on between Scotland and England, whereas Clarksons was just insulting!
But maybe some people interpret murrays comments as insulting.

DumbledoresGirl · 06/02/2009 18:10

No I am sorry Saltire, I take Andy Murray's comments in just the same light as I take Jeremy Clarkson's (the nationality jibes I mean). Both sides are guilty of it and you know well that is true.

And the Australians don't need any tips on bashing the English, Scottish or any other nation for that matter. They rip us to shreds. I know as I am married to one (who does not rip us to shreds but is related to many who do).

SoupDragon · 06/02/2009 18:17

"If he was English, JC wouldn't have said 'one-eyed English idiot'

He was not merely describing him, he was insulting him"

No, but I bet if JC had been Scottish and GB English he would have done.

expatinscotland · 06/02/2009 18:18

We can bet this and bet that, but the only fact is that JC is just as big a tosser as he ever was. No surprise there.

SoupDragon · 06/02/2009 18:20

I had no idea he was blind in one eye before this BTW.

(and I'm not defending JCs comments, he's a twat anyway.)

SoupDragon · 06/02/2009 18:23

Having said that, is it not factual that GB is a Scottish idiot?

If he'd left out the "one eyed" part he could have got away it.

AitchTwoOh · 06/02/2009 18:23

DG, GB is not only blind in one eye, he can barely see out of the other. parliamentary docs are sent to him in HUGE font, you can practically read over his shoulder if you watch the westminster coverage.

and JC a tosser, i find him v funny though. but this wasn't actually amusing, just a bit lame and in retrospect he agrees questionable.

by the way am i the only one old enough to remember Ben Elton taking the piss out of Maggie Thatcher's claw hand?

AitchTwoOh · 06/02/2009 18:25

here you go

SoupDragon · 06/02/2009 18:26

Thatcher had a clawed hand???

I am so ignorant!

AitchTwoOh · 06/02/2009 18:28

lol it was operated on, just temporary.
