I believe the only way forward is for a two state solution.

Who else believes this is a resolution to the conflict and , if not, what solutions do you believe will bring peace?

Deeja, it's a nice idea, but I don't how it could work any time in the next 100 years or so. If there were 2 states with equal access to resources, equal treatment internationally etc etc, and they could manage to live in peace, perhaps some time in the future there could could be greater union accross the whole region, much as has happened in Europe with the EU.

Interesting (and depressing) links rev.

A two state solution is the only way in which both peoples can achieve a refuge and sanctuary from the outside world, a way of controlling their own destiny, practising their religion and protecting their values and way of life, in other words a homeland.

It's particularly important for the Jews because they are always very vulnerable to persecution when living in other communities, but it would also give the Palestinians a chance to live free from manipulation by Islamic extremists.

As to resources, that's obviously very complicated and would be a matter for negotiation but no one in the world has equal access to natural resources (think of oil), and I would bet that the Israelis would do almost anything in return for guaranteed peace.

Deeeja - "2 more states woudl further destablishe the region ....how can 2 groups of people who cannot live in peace live next door to one another?

Plenty of neighbours live in cold peace - Egypt and Israel and Israel and Jordan are 2 such examples. Plenty of European countries live in peace with their neighbours where historically there has been war/unrest. Look at what was Czechoslavakia and also Yugoslavia.

Israel and Palestine ( should it become a nation) will also learn to live in peace.

There is really no reason for someone who genuinely wants to see peacve in the region not to support a 2 state solution ( unless of course they are either on the side of Hamas in wanting the Jews thrown into the sea and the whole of Israel back or on teh extremist Jewish end where they will not agree to return any land at all).

It's a no-brainer isn't it. Of course it's the answer. The questuion is whether the countroied supprounding Israel will let them exist - full stop
