I believe the only way forward is for a two state solution.

Who else believes this is a resolution to the conflict and , if not, what solutions do you believe will bring peace?

So, because as you say a few jewish people have been threatened by some hot-headed youths who totally misunderstand what they are actually angry about, that Palestinians should suffer a fate that makes death seem a whole lot more palatable.
Well in my area a jewish teen put a pigs head outside the mosque door and threw fireworks through the window where children were learning to recite the quran, that is not the reason why I think that Israel needs to be changed as a whole state, and not with a two state solution which would further destabilise the area, ONE STATE SOLUTION is what is needed.

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:22

Some 'hot-headed youths' murdered a lot of people in the July 7th bombings. I am not trying to be inflammatory, Deeeja (there is more than enough room on the other thread for that!) but I don't think anyone should underestimate what these youths are capable of.

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:23

A Jewish teen handling a pig's head?!

Deeeja · 09/01/2009 21:23

The youths that were accused of the 7/7 bombings were not Palestinian, they were Pakistani.
What do you mean Bubble?

MaryMarriott · 09/01/2009 21:25

I agree that Deeeja's comment was very offensive and unfair to Rev.

It is good to hear some words of empathy about Israel, despite what is going on there at the moment.

I think my personal overriding feeling is that Israel is just hanging on in the region by a thread, and would have ceased to exist years ago if not for the US, and is probably on borrowed time in any event if Iran and extremism continues on its present track.

Deeeja · 09/01/2009 21:27

What kind of 'extremism' would that be Mary?

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:27

The 'martyr videos', IIRC cited Palestine as one of the reasons for the bombings.

A pig's head is as offensive to Jews as it would be to Muslims. That is why I am surprised that it was a Jewish teen. He can't have been a particularly observant Jew?

Deeeja · 09/01/2009 21:29

For what it is worth, Bubble, I think it was local bnp trying to stir the usual shite. Didn't mean to be offensive

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:30

Deeeja. Mary Marriot's post at 19.02 links to an article from the Times today. It is written by an Iranian and explores the links between Hamas and Iran.

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:31

Thanks, Deeeja. None taken.

Deeeja · 09/01/2009 21:37

Whether there are links between Hamas and Iran, is not a problem when you consider that the US is financially supporting Israel. That is how politics works. I haven't read the article, but I don't think a journalist's opinion justifies what is going on now in the area.
Two more states would further destabilise the area, and lead t all sorts of problems. How can two groups of people that can not live in peace, live next door to eachother. I suppose they will fight until they wipe eachother out.

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:38

By 'one state' do you mean no more Israel?

Deeeja · 09/01/2009 21:40

Maybe a new state with a completely new name. Then everyone will fight over the new name.....

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:41

I think this journalist's opinion goes a long way to explaining not justifying what's going on in the area.

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:42

And fight over the areas within the new state. So back to square one..

Deeeja · 09/01/2009 21:45

No, a new state when no-one will fight over the areas in the state, where people will live next door to each other in shared communities in peace, work and play together.
Why can't it be like that?

Bubble99 · 09/01/2009 21:48

Because some mental Zionists and mental Jihadists keep trying to stop it.

Deeeja, why can't it be like that indeed. Do you think there's ever going to be the goodwill for that to happen, though? Maybe I'm just pessimistic.

Revjusta - I just e-mailed you, don't know if it's a current e-mail, though.

Kay, it can only happen if all people have equal rights, and equal access to all resources. Otherwise there will always be unrest
