Lol panta! I'd be happy to see warehouse piss off as I havn't been able to fit into their cothes since I was 10. Damn them.

simpsonsChristmasSpecial · 28/12/2008 23:39

I went in to Mark One about November time and seriously thought my branch was closing down (it wasn't - just had no stock in)

Won't be suprised if they go...

Not suprised at Adams either...every time I have gone in there to get something for Dcs and thats not very often, they don't have what I want

Pleeease don't let any coffee shops close, my dad is obsessed with coffee shops
[sad person emoticon]
and I would never hear the end of it!!

This is like fantasy football for spenders and consumers of stuff. Am mentally designing my ideal shopping street. Sort of Dales village meets Posh suburb with a sprinkling of hyper markets.

yep, fancy coffe shops with massive overheads on high street places look favourites, I'm afraid. This is of course as per PAnta's Economic Study Group which is entirely unknown by anyone outside of SK13..but has been known to be cuttingly accurate in the past...remember the dot.com bubble burst? they heard it here first..

treedelivery · 28/12/2008 23:45

AND NO MOBILE SHOPS WITH BALLONS OUTSIDE. Damn them as well!

Panta · 28/12/2008 23:54

yes, tree. I want florists, friendly newsagents, lingerie shops that are 'discrete', take-aways that have a good array of veggie stuff, little shops that do fabric repairs well, and shops with 15 lines in bubble bath, not "own brand" or Radox only..

nappyaddict · 29/12/2008 00:23

Next is good for the kids stuff but the adults stuff is crap imo especially the ladies.

nappyaddict · 29/12/2008 00:25

why don't you like balloons tree?

elkiedee · 29/12/2008 00:26

I first ventured into Adams at the beginning of this year and actually found a couple of lovely jumpers, one of which has grown with ds for some reason and which he's really attached to. And some nice animal print bodysuits. But haven't found anything nice since.

I would miss Next - don't like the logos but then the much more expensive Gap also seems to sell ludicrous amounts of logo clothes (alongside the nice stuff).

treedelivery · 29/12/2008 00:30

Nothing against balloons as such - but you know those mobile shops with big balloon displays outside for no given reason, and music playing outside on massive sub woofers [???] and girls in hot pants handing out flyers for rubbish phone deals...?

Or is this just where I live?

simpsonsChristmasSpecial · 29/12/2008 00:31

I like the stuff from next but for Dcs I think the choice is much bigger for girls than boys.

Also I do think the adult stuff is quite good quality I don't think the choice is that good TBH. They have a sale then bring out new stuff like what has just gone in sale iyswim

Panta · 29/12/2008 00:33

tree - you live in California, obv.

treedelivery · 29/12/2008 00:37

Ha Haaaaaaa East coast sea side! CAN you imagine......hot pants in the seaside fog/sea frett/freezing mist.

SilentTerror · 29/12/2008 09:50

Panta,am not too far from an SK postcode myself!
My predictions for lean times are
Oasis
Boots
Waterstones
Jane Norman(what is this shop...dire,imo)
Clintons, other card shops.(newsagents and supermarkets do more reasonably priced cards)
I think anywhere that sells stuff that can be bought more cheaply online(books etc) or in supermarkets will suffer, tbh

SparklyBaubleFeast · 29/12/2008 10:02

surely not boots??

OP posts:
XmasPud · 29/12/2008 10:06

I don?t think Boots will go anywhere. They might end up cutting back if overspent on new stores perhaps, but not disappear. They are the leading main chemist store on every high street. People don?t buy that stuff online and they are not in the luxury/can buy it anywhere scenario of Whittards.

AnneOfAvonlea · 29/12/2008 10:09

Noooo. Where am I going to get DDs school uniform from? I got them from Adams and Woolies this year.

cocolepew · 29/12/2008 10:10

All the Mark One's over here shut a couple of months ago.

nappyaddict · 29/12/2008 16:09

I don't think boots will be going anywhere. perhaps superdrug and lloyds though.

silentnightplease · 29/12/2008 16:21

Stuffing - I know you posted hours ago but re vouchers...

My DH was in Zavvi on 23rd Dec - a staff member came round and said they had just that minute been told they were in administration and could no longer accept gift vouchers.

Would try and spend them asap just in case.

LadyMuck · 29/12/2008 16:27

Tescos will have taken over the UK high street by the end of 2009 at this rate.

nappyaddict · 29/12/2008 16:29

The Zavvi in our shopping centre has only just opened!!

fatzak · 29/12/2008 16:30

Not sure if has been posted yet, but DH reckons that Dixons and PC World are the next ones. Let's just hope that Dixons come and collect our faulty Wii before they go.

MilaMae · 29/12/2008 18:52

I'm wondering about Gap,there is never any stock in ours, customer service is now crap(used to be v good)and the quality is only a shade of what it used to be.

Our WHSmiths is always heaving but I wonder how they're doing as they basically only sell stationary, papers and books all of which you can get elsewhere. Would hate to see them go as they have such a good range of mags
