I so hope for Obama
a) no one shoots him
b) he doesn't get sucked in to the bureaucracy machine and those around him allow him to carry out his strong and honest convictions over the next 4 years.

Yes the use of Anne Nixon-Cooper was fantastic. I think a stark reminder to those that forget that not so many years ago he wouldn't even have been able to vote, let alone be elected as the President.

I was blubbing the moment the news broke. I am extremely hopeful that mine and my boys' lives are just about to improve. And CF you are great, a truly gracious and very clever political speech from McCain.

What an orator - haven't really heard more than bits of his speeches apart from the convention one. He is something else

McCain was v good imo, I thought he seemed relieved that it was all over - he's looked v frazzled the last few days.

It made me cry too - it is an amazingly hopeful day for the whole world and I think that the world has just become a safer and better place for all of us.

THe quote that says that people have been led to 'put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day' is incredibly inspiring (even to someone as jaded as me).

yes I agree suzywong - I just watched the entire speech on bbc.co.uk and it is quite something. The reference to Anne Nixon-Cooper was a masterstroke IMO.

Madamcastafiore - where is your evidence for that allegation? I have not heard about that. He HAS said he is willing to engage in talks with Iran which in my book indicates progress and compromise.

I wait with baited breath to see if he will do anything for the Palestinians. Let's face it, they have been fucked over by Bush big time.

I listened to it on Radio 4 whilst driving DS to nursery.

I thought it was an incredible speech and I cried.

I said to DH this morning that I feel more hopeful for our children's future.

Regardless of what happens next, America has shown us what it represents. And I like it.

Hmm, a speech from August after being accused of being 'soft'. I shall wait and see how he feels about the Middle East post credit-crunch and becoming president. It will be more accurate I think.

Well I blubbed at both Barack's speech and McCains. Those Americans really know how to pile on the emotion.

The world is hoping he can fix it - starting with global warming, the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, poverty. I truly think we are going to hell in a handcart unless this man does something brave and bold.
As someone on the radio said this morning, at least he has a passport, and that is a good start.
