Doesnt this sort of stink of hypercritism? when she said I wont comment until I speak to my 'agent' - was what she meant - I could make some money out of this - I know if every time I speak I have The Sun logo above my head I will bask in the glory?

Isnt talking about how rubbish RB is in bed stooping to the very level that we are accusing RB of? Will RBs granfather not have to read this article and will they not be upset? Sachs has been very dignified about the whole inccident though it has to be said.

I don't think 'silence in women' is powerful. I think given a choice between leaping in and adding details to a sordid story via a tabloid or 2 or staying publically silent, staying silent is more powerful as you retain dignity. Whether it's a man or a woman staying silent.

Nothing to do with silence 'in a women.' The gender is irrelevant.

Ivegotaheadache · 30/10/2008 22:02

JR adn RB were utter prats for saying what they did, butthis was a PRE RECORDED show it should never have gone out (I'm repeating myself here), if it were live it may be a different story but someone in the bbc (they've been sacked now I think) should have had the sense to not put it out. Maybe they thought it was funny.

GB would have been better not saying anything. How her giving her account of events to the Sun is helping her grandfather is beyond me. Why does she need Max Clifford? She should have just put out a statement.

It wasn't her fault and it wasn't her that started it, but she hasn't made it better.

It's not anti all women to say that one woman may have an ulterior motive, and is going about things the wrong way.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 30/10/2008 22:02

oh morning paper I keep xposting with you but saying the same thing...

IorekMandelson · 30/10/2008 22:03

Wow this has got nasty. I think we all need to stop blaming each other and start blaming the Daily Mail. It's the Mail that has whipped up this frothing outrage, after the whole sorry episode seemed to have been resolved between Andrew Sachs and Radio 2. If you want to see a big bucket of misogynist, hypocritical, inflammatory bile you need look no further than their online front page.

The Mail thrives on hatred. Don't let them win.

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 22:04

You hire Max Clifford to get the most money. It's nothing to do with truth.

Or vaginas

skyatnight · 30/10/2008 22:04

I DON'T CARE WHAT SHE DOES/DID. IT IS IRRELEVANT. SHE DID NOT START THIS.

FWIW OneBat and MendedKnee, I also hang out here in pursuit of truth and beauty and intellectual stimulation. I am not ashamed of this (only slightly embarrassed).

I agree with Bella. I think OneBat, Dittany and Mabanana have rightly got frustrated now because their excellent arguments are not being acknowledged or refuted, just by-passed.

When people start to say 'woah, intense man, chill out. I think you are overanalysing this. Get a life...', it means they have run out of anything interesting to say.

So, someone on the internet is right!

mabanana · 30/10/2008 22:05

And sometimes your silence is taken as an invitation to attack. Especially if you are an attractive young woman of whom there is a plentiful supply of pictures of a racy nature. You don't know tabloids if you don't know that.

IorekMandelson · 30/10/2008 22:06

Sad about Lesley Douglas.

izyboy · 30/10/2008 22:06

Well yep IM 'tis true as I said much earlier on I don't want the DM or The Sun defining what 'humour' is allowable on my screen or radio.

Upwind · 30/10/2008 22:06

"Silence when confronted with any media scandal is often the best approach"

Not when you've been thrust into the spotlight unwillingly like GB has because it is all she would be remembered for - being publicly humiliated and used by an utter pillock as comedy material. This way she gets some control and hopefully lots of money.

If Paris Hilton had meekly gone all quiet after her xp released their sex tapes all those years ago, that is all we would associate her with. Instead, she made the most of her notoriety.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 30/10/2008 22:07

Bloody hell

"> So why are some women prepared to defend Brand and Ross whatever kind of shit they pull whilst going after the woman they attacked with such gusto?

Dittany you have said this 100 times

Neither of these things are happening"

MP - everyone other than Dittany and I are criticising GB to one extent or another. WHY ARE THEY DOING SO?

She had sex with someone.
that person simultaneously told her grandfather, and the world.
That person continued to make public jokes about having 'met' the life out of her (or similar)
Said someone did not apologize.
She realizes that she is a laughing stock - and in an attempt to claw back some sense of being active in her own destiny, rather than a passive victim, decides to sell her (very, very polite) version of the truth, rather than giving it away to tabloids who will not treat her any differently whether she gave the story or sold it.

What kind of FREAKOID world do we live in, where she is criticized for this at all.

Let alone where her response to said humiliation garners more criticism than the freaking announcement, which she didn't consent to, of her sexual life?

Lots of people seem TO ME to be saying: "No one has acted with particular wisdom in the matter but the whole thing has been blown massively out of proportion." I don't see your interpretation of the posts as being the above.

I do agree that this thread title is not very nice

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 30/10/2008 22:15

"I think we all need to stop blaming each other and start blaming the Daily Mail."

Iorek, in this instance, I profoundly disagree with you. This thread is a perfect micro-example of the DM's macro-practices (my post of 20:42:51)

What we actually need to do is to acknowledge and analyse why some women hate some other women, in the hope of changing things.

izyboy · 30/10/2008 22:15

Well mp yes thanks for bringing me back to my original sentiments.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 22:15

she's represented by max clifford. and has been since well before this. she sings with the satanic sluts.

COME ON PEOPLE!!!

mabanana · 30/10/2008 22:16

so the name of her group makes her 'fair game' does it? We can't have sluts getting above themselves, eh?

izyboy · 30/10/2008 22:17

mp do you hate women? (Pobably shouldnt ask) I know I dont or certainly wasnt aware of it.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/10/2008 22:17

this is about publicity for her!!!

that is why this has been whipped up.

it is why ANDREW SACHS APPROVED THE BROADCAST. HE HAD HEARD IT YOU KNOW.

give me strength

VersdeSociete · 30/10/2008 22:17

Hmmm, I am going to agree with onebatmother et al.
Have always found Ross and Brand abominable misogynists

skyatnight · 30/10/2008 22:18

Here we go again...

(Agree MendedKnee! )

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 22:18

why some women hate some other women

Why is saying 'Nobody comes out of this as having behaved very well, but the real issue here is media controlling the mob' about women hating women?
