poor baby!

her biggest fear, being held under water.

can't imagine that.

Majeika · 23/09/2008 18:25

and her daughter was sooo beautiful.

she will be persecuted in prison...........

Sparkletastic · 23/09/2008 18:26

'good'?!

SaintRiven · 23/09/2008 18:28

good that she was jailed. So many parents who kill a disabled child get off because the judge thinks that having a disabled child is so horrific that of course they murdered it. And its a mercy anyhow.

how tragic.

While I believe that the mother deserves her prison sentence, with her history of mental health problems one can only wonder about the lack of support system which meant that it was not recognised that this little girl was at risk.

donnie · 23/09/2008 18:34

well I suppose killers should be jailed, but I find the entire thing terribly sad. She ( the mother) had a long history of depression and at least one suicide attempt and was also an alcoholic. That must tell us something. I feel very sorry for her at any rate, despite the dreadful thing she did.

Twiglett · 23/09/2008 18:35

hmmm I'm not sure about this one either ... the history of mental issues encompassing repetitive thoughts and severe PND are surely mitigating?

the 8 hours driving around and disassociation from the act?

surely there seems grounds for a diminished responsibility here?

once again I'm left feeling that the legal system lets down women in severe need.

of course I've read nothing but that report .. I'm probably wrong and she probably is just evil

Twiglett · 23/09/2008 18:37

it also sounds like the judge feels she should be hospitalised too

this one screams of something going awry with the legal system

SaintRiven · 23/09/2008 18:37

thing is, if a depressed alcoholic killed a random stranger then they'd be jailed too.
I do agree that she possibly didn't get help and her husband hadn't noticed she was 'embaressed' by her dd's disability but murder is murder.

I agree, good she is in jail. It's where she deserves to be.

lou33 · 23/09/2008 18:40

i have been reading about this story and i find it totally heartbreaking

Janos · 23/09/2008 18:45

She certainly should had some more help than she did given her history of mental illness.

Still murder though.

MABS · 23/09/2008 18:45

it really upset me, her dd had v similar condition to my ds.

lou33 · 23/09/2008 18:50

hi mabs

TotalChaos · 23/09/2008 18:52

i was puzzled by that comment too Twig - though possibly he meant that her mental state was impaired after the murder rather than in the time leading up to it.

a horrible story and wicked act. sounds like there was insufficient support though.

chapstickchick · 23/09/2008 18:54

such a terrible thing .

Spidermama · 23/09/2008 18:59

There are no winners whatsoever in this terrible, sad story. It really got to me when I read about this.

I think she needed help. You have to be desperate and messed up to do something like this. I simply don't believe that people are evil. They're just people and sometimes they do evil things.

ElenorRigby · 23/09/2008 20:12

I have suffered from a severe anxiety disorder and severe depression but would never harm a child or anyone.
I am quite frankly sickened that people excuse this woman's actions because of those mental health problems.
I hope she rots in hell.

SparklyGothKat · 23/09/2008 21:12

How could she?? because she wore callipars!!! Both my Ds1 and DD2 have cerebral palsy and wear splints... its not a big deal!! She could have covered them up FFS!!! If its very mild then she properably wore the short ones and you can roll the sock back over them to hide them.. I am so upset!! what a nasty selfish bitch!! I hope she rots in prison!!

NotAnOtter · 23/09/2008 21:14

i am shocked
it was a terrible thing to do but i am shocked and saddened by the harsh sentence

saint2shoes · 23/09/2008 21:27

I hope she rots in hell.
to do that to her beautiful daughter, is sick beyond words.

saint2shoes · 23/09/2008 21:30

"harsh sentence"
she should be locked up for *ever imo

Heated · 23/09/2008 21:32

The whole story is too too awful. Poor little girl.

wannaBe · 23/09/2008 21:36

It sickens me that when someone kills their own child, mental illness is somehow seen as a mitigating factor.

Ian Brady is mentally ill. peter Sutcliffe is mentally ill. Yet I don't see people crying out in sympathy at what they have done to their victims.

Why does moing similar to your own child suddenly make it ok?

Murder is murder.

If she's mentally ill then she should be sectioned, for life.

If she isn't then she should wrot in jail, for life.

I don't feel sorry for her just because she's been an alcoholic depressive in the past. She was ashemed of her daughter, she wanted to put her up for adoption, her husband wouldn't agree so she killed her instead.

If this was a man would people still feel the sentence was too harsh?

saint2shoes · 23/09/2008 21:38

well said wannabe
