But they haven't got half a brain even between them sobernow!

WigWamBam · 10/02/2005 10:23

Camilla is obviously the woman Charles has been in love with all his life, I feel sad that he wasn't man enough to stand up to his mother and marry her in the first place, rather than being pushed into marrying someone more "suitable".

about bloody time too

I find it sad that a man can feel an obligation NOT to marry the woman he loves, and has loved all his life, because of tradition or fear of middle england

sweetkitty · 10/02/2005 10:29

I honestly don't care let them marry - this affects me how? If 2 people love each other and want to marry it's up to them. In everyday life people cheat on each other and remarry, I wonder if the people up in arms have ever cheated on their spouse or lived in sin. Charles isn't hte first royal to have a mistress and I'm sure he won't be the last.

I do think that the public in general will object if Camilla becomes PoW though.

crumpet · 10/02/2005 10:33

But Kelly, by much of the country do you mean the majority? This thread (as a possibly unrepresentative sample) I would say has tilted more in the diretion of either "good for them" or " I don't care either way", rather than an intense dislike of Camilla.

I don't suppose we'll ever know whether he only saw Diana as a brood mare, or whether he was determined to continue the affair with Camilla from day 1 - we just won't know.

FWIW I think it's possible that given his position he succumbed to pressure to marry someone of a higher rank than Camilla. The marriage to Diana smacks of an arranged marriage, which may not have been wholly within his control, and if so it's not surprising that it didn't work out - but not necessarily the sole fault of Charles if the marriage was pushed on him.

(Whether or not the royal family adequately serve in return for their position is probably for another thread, but I do think it would be unfair to say that the key members of the RF do not do a lot.)

suedonim · 10/02/2005 10:34

Maybe they'll do the same as Princess Anne and get wed in Scotland? It's easier for divorcees up here.

I can't say I like Camilla, she doesn't set a good example. She could perhaps have married Charles but she wouldn't wait for him when he was posted abroad with the RN and got married to Mr P-B. And then she and C were up to no good on his wedding eve, fgs!

Memo to self - must try to dissuade dd1 from wanting to marry one of the princes - what a MIL dd'd have!

WideWebWitch · 10/02/2005 10:35

crumpet, Julie Birchill says it was an arranged marriage in her book, Diana. Lady Fermoy was determined Diana would marry Charles apparently. There were big machinations!

Lonelymum · 10/02/2005 10:38

Don't have much regard for either on a personal level, but happy for them as individuals as I think they will end their lives happily together (after 34 years, RTKangaMummy, you can hardly say they are getting married too quickly!)

RTKangaMummy · 10/02/2005 10:39

Friday 8th April Maybe now

Lonelymum · 10/02/2005 10:41

Can we all have a day off to celebrate like we did when Princess Anne married Captain Mark Phillips?

crumpet · 10/02/2005 10:41

WWW that's reminded me of the Private Eye/Sylvie Krin book about Barbara Carland being a pushy granny determined to marry Diana to the prince!

RTKangaMummy · 10/02/2005 10:41

Don't mean too quickley like that

mean quick engagement announced to marriage

especially the number of people who will have to organize

OP posts:
golds · 10/02/2005 10:41

I have no time for the royals since Diana died, still think something dodgy happended there.

mjhen · 10/02/2005 10:42

I cant divide the state role and the private. On a human level yes they should marry if they choose but on the national (and international)stage I can not accept her as Queen. I expect more than their conduct in recent decades if they wish to occupy the popsition of head of state and consort. I say NO.

RTKangaMummy · 10/02/2005 10:42

Easter holidays for school kids

princess consort when he becomes KING

OP posts:
snafu · 10/02/2005 10:43

It's probably been organised for ages, Kangamummy. They just let us plebs know at the last minute so we don't have time to organise a revolt

bundle · 10/02/2005 10:43

what i want to know is : will she wear a Big Dress?

snafu · 10/02/2005 10:43

I don't think she even wants to be Queen, does she? Probably be Duchess of Cornwall or similar.

RTKangaMummy · 10/02/2005 10:44

Albert was prince consort to victoria

She will deffo be NOT Queen

but

PRINCESS CONSORT

OP posts:
winnie · 10/02/2005 10:44

PMSL at the idea that it is happening now on GMTV

Frankly, they deserve each other, thought they'd get married eventually, but really couldn't care less. Hope he never makes King but then again don't really get the point of royalty anyway.

crumpet · 10/02/2005 10:44

Does anyone know if there has been a formal announcement that she will be Queen rather than consort?

RTKangaMummy · 10/02/2005 10:45

so DUCHESS OF CORNWALL

then

PRINCESS CONSORT when Elizabeth dies

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 10/02/2005 10:46

lilibet · 10/02/2005 10:46
