I think that proposals like these are long over due. Although I think that if you make people work full time for their benefits they won't have time to look for job.

Prehaps they should work three days a week and look for a job two days a week.

There are people who for good reasons cannot work full time, but certainly could do something part time.

this seems to have reverted to a bun fight instead of an actual discussion about the proposed scheme and paper, so I'm going to go and drink tea.

FAQ · 22/07/2008 16:04

well lucky for her........

My "D"B is 400 miles away - and hasn't spoken to me since the 14th March, my parents are approx 200 miles away and have only spoken to them a couple of times in the last few months.

LMFAO at your clever comments about my use of > - at least my wasn't a personal attack on someone about a situation which they had little/no control over

iheartsunsets · 22/07/2008 16:06

Their are very few people in this country who are not in control of their situation

Unfortunately there are far too many people who wont take responsibility for their situation

iheartsunsets · 22/07/2008 16:07

There

FAQ · 22/07/2008 16:08

haha at "very few people" - I think you'll find there's rather a lot of us.

And = just out of interest - do you think that my brother, once the doctor deemed him "fit" to work again should have just taken any old job rather than remain on JSA for an extra 1 1/2yrs??

iheartsunsets · 22/07/2008 16:10

I don't know the facts, only what you tell me and your not exactly objective are you

iheartsunsets · 22/07/2008 16:11

And yes you are in control of your life

divastrop · 22/07/2008 17:29

of course, no one means you, riven, just the rest of those scroungers who live on benefits.

i know they mean you, too, riven. but it's like this on MN. people will say, 'oh, but not people like you, riven'. to me it's remniscent of 'black people, but not you . . . ' or 'i know this one [insert stereotype] but of course, not you . . . '

iheartsunsets · 22/07/2008 17:49

oh blah blah woe is me!

Can I just say that not everyone on MN is like that.

And by lumping all of MN together, aren't you doing the same thing as people saying everyone on benefits is a scrounger?

iheartsunsets · 22/07/2008 17:51

Is that what we are talking about Riven? Funny I thought the title was 'work for dole'

iheartsunsets · 22/07/2008 17:52

And I haven't even used the word scrounger so put your dummy back in Riven

expatinscotland · 22/07/2008 17:52

did i say 'everyone on MN is like that'? erm, no, obviously not, having been here for 4 years. this is one of many, many threads on the dole (hello again, riven! ) and they all usually go the same way.

FAQ · 22/07/2008 17:59

riven - don't let it get to you - if it's any consolation I've already been told I was irresponsible for having 3 children while happily married with a H who worked his socks off to support us.....

And apparently I'm in total control of my life - so I can magic up childcare facilities that aren't there, and find a job which is financially viable for me.

Hope your marriage (presuming you are - as you seem to have little concept of not only life on benefits, but of that as a single parent) never breaks down and you suddenly discover that actually there are times in life when you have very LITTLE control over it.

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 22/07/2008 17:59

Wow Iheartsunsets. What ugly posts. You're so smug. You have no compassion. You say you're proud. Well I wouldn't be proud if I were you. I'd be ashamed.

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 22/07/2008 18:02

just trying to point out that there are many of us here who don't agree with iheartsunsets, expat, that's all.

FAQ · 22/07/2008 18:02

and another thing Riven - she's not really reading any of the post properly (as evident by her responses) so I wouldn't dwell too much on it.
