Police Apology To Muslim Community Over Police Dog

I don't know exactly why but this story has really ticked me off.

Not just because I like dogs but I appreciate the part they play in the police force, one of my neighbours when I was young was a police dog handler. Does this mean Muslims would refuse a guide dog, a hearing dog? If a Muslim child went missing would they turn the search dogs away? What about the ones who went to Pakistan after the earthquake?

This seems very petty and is perhaps why there are problems with integration - an apology was not appropriate to the point of being extreme.

I can't believe this story is true!
No Muslim I know would ever object to this. I don't think they would even give it a second thought.

Its just so annoying for Muslims to have to keep defending themselves all the time for these random stupid news stories.

I am losing the will to live.

Ripeberry · 02/07/2008 09:47

Do muslims keep cats? I mean they lick their bottoms and then lick themselves all over.
Are they unclean as well?

OK so I read a version of this article in the metro (yes that well known bastian of balanced fact filled reportiing).

Apparantly this councillor said that muslims dont like dogs and many shopkeepers wouldnt put up the advert in their windows.
It doesn't say he demanded an apology nor that his sensitivities had been offended beyond repair, just that many muslim shopkeepers wouldnt have the ad in their windows. Which is a matter of opinion for the shopkeeprs in question surely.

Cats are considered cleaner than dogs and are permissable as pets, might be as they dont tend to lick people (or maybe they do and the ones I've met just didnt want to lick me!)

Ripeberry · 02/07/2008 14:27

What i was thinking of was that people like to stroke cats, but if you think about it the cat has licked its fur so you are effectively stroking its spit.
Sorry if that sounds yuck!

It would seem that the sensible Muslims have decided that this councillor should be outed as a complete numpty. Gorgeous pup, his ears are still lovely and floppy (melts.)

That there is someone drawing a probably very good wage as a "diversity adviser" is just another example of pc nonsense (no pun intended.) My mate works at NHS 24 and they get emails from their "adviser" on the most stupid of matters - he simply tries to justify his wage.

Ripeberry, cats will lick their bits and then lick your hand or face. Same with dogs. Only with cats it is done with that sense of superiority and wickedness.

I'm more offended by that telephone!

Trouble is it only takes a couple of idiots to give the rest of the community a bad name at as time when we need harmaony and cooperation within society more than ever.

nervousal · 03/07/2008 11:25

how the local press are reporting it now

nervousal · 03/07/2008 11:29

Seems as this is a complete non-story whch everyone is getting their knickers in a twist over. No-one has complained about this postcard, no-one has refused to have it up in their shop etc. This is just a Councillor tryingto make a name for himself - tit

Greyriverside · 03/07/2008 19:59

Depends what you mean by a non-story. An elected official misrepresenting muslim sensibilities and stirring up trouble for his own gain is a story isn't it. This is a genuine concern that the public need to be aware of.

I don't have any figures, but I'd bet that most muslims will tend to vote for the 'muslim candidate'. I'm sure I would if the positions were reversed. You'd want someone who understood your needs.

That leaves an opening for unscrupulous politicians (are there any other kinds?) to enhance their careers by creating problems where there were none. This is bad for everybody.
