From the Daily Telegraph...

A seven-year-old boy was kept chained in a closet as relatives hacked off pieces of his flesh to eat, a court has heard.

In a case with echoes of the Fritzl family horror in Austria, Ondrej Mauerova was partially skinned in the closet in a cellar at his home in Kurim near Brno, in the Czech Republic, according to reports.

The abuse ? involving members of a religious cult ? was uncovered by chance last May when a neighbour's television baby monitor picked up graphic pictures of what was happening next door.

Ondrej and his nine-year-old brother Jakub were locked and chained in the cellar for months by their mother Klara, 31 ? a member of a group called the Grail Movement.

He was caged, beaten and gagged to stop him screaming, according to reports.

Mauerova had the monitor installed so that she could watch the abuse from her kitchen but the images were picked up by a neighbour who used an identical system to monitor a newborn baby, the regional court in Brno has heard.

Police were called and the two boys as well as what appeared to be a 13-year-old girl were freed.

But the girl later turned out to have been one of the alleged abusers, 34-year-old Barbora Skrlova.

She subsequently fled to Norway before being brought back to the Czech Republic earlier this year.

Mauerova has admitted abusing her children but she said she had been manipulated by Skrlova and her own sister Katerina.

The accused are Klara Mauerova, her sister Katerina, 34; Barbora Skrlova, 33; her brother Jan Skrla and a friend Jan Turek.

Do you know-I think I could have lived without you posting this

Mercy · 20/06/2008 15:14

Indeed. You should have put a warning first.

MamaG · 20/06/2008 15:15

Yeah thanks for that

MissingMyHeels · 20/06/2008 15:16

I think the thread title is warning enough.

Horrendous.

happystory · 20/06/2008 15:16

And your point is? We can all read stories on the internet...

ElenorRigby · 20/06/2008 15:26

Exactly MissingMyHeels.

This is also a news forum, the articles were published today in newspapers, I guess that makes them news

and the point is both fathers and mothers are sadly capable of horrendous acts against children, following on from the recent thread about a father killing his children, is this not as horrific? Will the people on that thread banging on about how abusive men can be be equally horrified by what this mother has done...

Im shaking with disbelief that people can be so evil. What is wrong with the world.

OP posts:
wannaBe · 20/06/2008 15:30

bloody hell.

Although tbh I do wonder why there is a need to publish such graphic details of these cases in the media. It's horrible. presumably the perpitrators will now be brought to justice, so why do we need to know exactly what they did?

MamaG · 20/06/2008 15:47

I just don't like to see this sort of title in active convos. I choose not to read the tabloids and then come on here at tut over the atrocities in the world so I'd rather not have it thrust in my face.

MehgaLegs · 20/06/2008 15:48

Hides thread - good grief!

Rosevie · 20/06/2008 16:35

OP, I find it very strange and unnecessary that you have posted so many horrific details.

orangehead · 20/06/2008 16:38

I think I need to stop reading newspapers everyday stories involving children, its too upsetting

Saymyname · 20/06/2008 16:40

Oh leave the OP alone. If you don't want to discuss it don't post, it's not rocket science.

pagwatch · 20/06/2008 16:44

I think posting the story is one thing but the title in active convos is upsetting without you even needing to click on it.
I wish OP had just put something less graphic as a title - after that what she posts in hers message is a matter for those who link to it.

Hideous.

pagwatch · 20/06/2008 16:45

I'm going to hide but can't op delete and re post changing the title.

BetteNoire · 20/06/2008 16:45

Agree with MamaG.
Ghoulish.

allgonebellyup · 20/06/2008 18:14

lets just put our fingers in our ears and sing loudly.......and pretend the world is really hunky dory....la la la

BetteNoire · 20/06/2008 18:39

I can't see where anyone is doing that, AGBU.
I'm certainly not.

But there is a difference between linking to a news item, and salaciously posting all the hideous details in the OP, like it's some kind of ghoulish gossip.

It's nasty.

Greyriverside · 20/06/2008 18:40

I think you can hide the news section entirely if the real world is so distressing.

It is nasty what religion leads people to. I only looked because I wanted to know if it was in the UK.

Flashman · 20/06/2008 21:54

How can this be the posters fault - in a group called in the news - she posts a news story - yes shocking!

TwoIfBySea · 20/06/2008 22:32

I reckon the OP put enough warning in her thread title. What would you expect to read with a title including torture and eat boy?

Really, if you are that sensitive then look away and pretend that these people do not exist, that way they can get away with treating children like this.

The horror that this boy experienced in his life, my God but what possesses people to do this? And to watch it?

findtheriver · 20/06/2008 22:37

Vile

findtheriver · 20/06/2008 22:39

Elenor - FWIW I don't understand why some people are criticising you for posting about an item that is in the news. Erm.. that's what this thread is for. And there have been plenty of other sickening cases recently.

PeaGreene · 20/06/2008 22:42

Mibght be news but what do you learn from it?

Borders on sensationalist otherwise.

2shoes · 20/06/2008 22:42

fucking hell. I really didnt need to see this. a warning would have been nice
