Is the video of the man being swallowed by the whale real?

Having watched it, I can't help but think it's been made with AI. And if it did actually happen, then how lucky it was that someone was filming him at the right time. That's the problem with AI, I don't know what's real and what's not anymore. But it just seems too far fetched to be true!

It's real and it's happened before.

Listening to the interviews it seems authentic.

It's real. He is safe and wasn't injured (unbelievably). Not the first time this has happened.

Whatinthedoopla · 15/02/2025 19:28

I'm skeptical because the guy doesn't even seem that bothered by it. Neither was his dad in the video!

I didn't see the man's boat come back out, so I'm worried about the whale. The video was taken off the coast of Chile which is where those whales go for the winter.

If you watch it again, you see it reappear first.

I wonder if the inside of a whale’s mouth is soft?

He said it was slimey.
I think it's real.

Agree. When he got swallowed the father (who just happened to be filming) didn’t react- no shout or scream, just nothing. I thought it was AI.

I’m trying to think of a word that conveys something accidentally ending up in your mouth and really struggling.
It feels like a failure of the English language.

I can't come up with one word, but how about "accidental dysphagia"?

Just stuck my hand inside my Jellycat whale's mouth. Definitely soft. 👍

According to the BBC news report, the kayaker described it as "slimey".

Maybe the Inuits do. 🤔

50 words for snow and they must see whales or be in contact with them far more than land loving englishers.

If you listen carefully to the interview, the dad says he doesn’t realise what’s happening. He’s quite far away.
i lived in chile for many years and when I listen to the audio and the interview I feel like the interaction is normal.
