They have arrested her on perverting the course of justice - which i think means lying to the police under oath doesnt it?

Is it at all possible that they knew where she was all the time?

Perhaps cahnnel 4 should now re-show the documentary on shannons family and see how it is received knowing what we know.

I'm on benifits!! Must be a bad parent!!

edam · 09/04/2008 10:19

Figroll, what evidence do you have that Karen Matthews is on benefits, or is a 'career benefit claimant? The only fact in the public domain is that her partner has a job!

figroll · 09/04/2008 10:20

Yes may be I would. Benefits are supposed to be a safety net - but some people claim them for life.

figroll · 09/04/2008 10:21

I have no evidence whatever, but I would wager that they do.

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 10:21

I grew up on a council estate and it was lovely, my parents still live there

but they are moving more and more scrotes on there who are horror bags and my parents have to put up with it

mainly single mothers with tons of children who run around causing havoc all day and night - shock, am I judging, yes I am!

so I will judge thanks when my dad gets a mouthful from some asbo king riding his mini bike past our house

off to do some work now!

figroll · 09/04/2008 10:21

Did I say bad parents are on benefits?

some people like living on sink estates

irrelevant piece of information alert

look at ricky hatton
he grew up on a n estate and him and his whole family still live there. even tho he is multi millionaire

SparklyGothKat · 09/04/2008 10:24

that was said tonugue in cheek figroll! I know that being on benifits doesn't make you a bad parent at all, its the way you treat your child(ren) that makes you a bad parent. You could be living on a sink estate and still be a great parent, or living on a POsh estate and be a crap parent.

edam · 09/04/2008 10:26

This article from the Telegraph tries to find something bad to say about Dewsbury Moor but the worst they can dredge up is that it's a bit windy and people celebrated when Shannon was found. And even the Telegraph, hardly the friend of the working classes, has to admit that 90 to 95 per cent of households on the estate work for their living.

figroll · 09/04/2008 10:27

If I don't claim benefits I must be a prostitute? Sorry, don't see the correlation there.

it may be peanuts to you

tell that to my elderly aunt who pays rent to the coucil for her sheltered housing. its not peanuts to her

MoreSpamThanGlam · 09/04/2008 10:30

I frew up on a council estate and then went on to be a single Mum. But i went to work a crappy job and did shifts that were exhausting and my child had shit expensive child care.

My neighbour stayed at home on benefits and had far more time with her kids to do fun things.

I was terrified of daily Mail readers accusing me of being a sponger. I was distraught and my child was miserable.

But at least I wasnt a sponger eh?

I went on to pay fortunes in tax until we lost our business and home. Am now in temp rented accomodation and its shit.

Its amazing that anyone would "choose" this career option.

edam · 09/04/2008 10:30

You don't know that she lives on taxpayers' money, all any of us know is that her partner has a job.

chocfest · 09/04/2008 10:31

Well, what I will say is that to date, Karen Matthew has cost us millions of pounds, and now we have the court case, and the costs of WHEN she is found guilty (I say when, because she will be) it will not end there, as no doubts we shall be paying for a stint 'at her majesty's service.

A good few mill, by the looks of it, and that is just her! We don't even begin to think what will happen to the hard working child pron viewing fishmonger of a decent boyfriend.

God, it's scary that any of the posters on this thread who have a had a pop at KM for irrelevant, invented 'crimes' could be on a jury.

'Ooh, the defendant must be guilty, look, she doesn't own her own house and she looks like a benefit scrounger, you can always tell'. FFS.

chocfest · 09/04/2008 10:33

she is certainly living on the taxpayers money right at thei very moment!

meemar · 09/04/2008 10:34

chocfest - comments on this thread have not been confined simply to KM.

There have been assertions by various people that it is wrong to have children by different fathers, that it makes you a bad mother.

There have been judgmental stereotypes made about people who live on 'sink' estates.

The fact that there is an assumption that they are on benefits (and wasting it on beer) without any evidence, speaks volumes about the prejudices that people have about people on low incomes.

It touches a nerve because it comes from ignorance, which can be dangerous when lots of people spouting ignorance get together.

wannaBe · 09/04/2008 10:34

Of course it?s about class. When the media print a story, they do so in a way that gives a certain impression of the person they are writing about. So when writing about the Mccanns, we read that ?Gerry, a cardiologist, and Kate, a gp,?, thus giving the readers the impression that these are educated, respectable individuals. And by the same token we read that ?Karen, who has 7 children by 5 men,? which gives an impression of its own.

The media have no reason to give us this additional information other than to ensure that the public opinion is formed o the basis of what they have read.

edam · 09/04/2008 10:35

No-one has said her boyfriend is decent - we don't know. Although he's not been found guilty of anything yet.

What I am challenging is the sheer prejudice that anyone who lives on a council estate must be a bad person and a benefits scrounger.
