They have arrested her on perverting the course of justice - which i think means lying to the police under oath doesnt it?

Is it at all possible that they knew where she was all the time?

Perhaps cahnnel 4 should now re-show the documentary on shannons family and see how it is received knowing what we know.

oh we have a few of them around here, but travelling up north I saw a few too.

MadameCh0let · 09/04/2008 10:04

This isn't a court, it's a chat forum.

edam · 09/04/2008 10:04

she may not be but the claim that she is a benefit scrounger, or even living on benefits, is without foundation atm.

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 10:05

yes, kids on corners with hoodies practicing for asbos

screeching woman saying Chardonayyyyy yer tea's ready hurry up you little shit

Apparently someone to do with karen matthews turned up at the Mccanns front door & spoke to Gerry Mccann saying could they have some money from the madeleine fund to help find shannon

My mum just said she read this.

SparklyGothKat · 09/04/2008 10:07

so a 'chavvy' estate then (are we allowed to use Chavvy anymore?)

figroll · 09/04/2008 10:08

Can't understand why people are sticking up for toerags like this. This family will have been paid benefits either through the benefit system or through the tax credit system. They saw a chance to make some dosh and used daughter to achieve this end (allegedly if you like, but it looks like there is a pretty good chance).

I think it is called a sink estate as you don't get out of one

sad but true mostly

meemar · 09/04/2008 10:11

I'm not bothered about people judging KM for what has happened in Shannon's case. If it's true she is a terrible mother and worthy of punishment. She will lose her children, and frankly she doesn't really deserve them if she can't treat them with love and respect.

What bothers me on this thread is the mindless perpetuating of stereotypes about people on benefits, people who live on council estates and women who have children by more than one father.

edam · 09/04/2008 10:11

And what's this 'sink estate' stuff? Has anyone here ever been to Dewsbury? Is it established fact that it is a 'sink estate'? Neighbours all looked jolly supportive to me. Even if it is a tough place to live, that's hardly Karen Matthew's fault - it's not like someone at the council housing department says, well we could offer you Posh Road and the tenant says 'ooh, no thanks, I'd rather live on a sink estate'.

FFS, why invent extra allegations? Isn't there enough to be going on with?

SparklyGothKat · 09/04/2008 10:11

ok I thought there was a reason thanks.

ARe these 'sink estates' really just full of bad families? Or do you get the odd goodun stuck on a terrible estate?

JeremyVile · 09/04/2008 10:12

OO, I dont think anyone is saying she is lovely, obviously we dont know anything yet but it's not lookin good for her.
What most of us are objecting to are the comments about the amount of kids she has, however many different fathers, the fact that some of the kids live with the father, that she may or may not be recieving benefits, that she's thick, ugly, dirty etc being the things that make her a shit mother, according some on this thread.

Well, there are plenty od people who would fit the same mould as KM, but could never be described as anything but a good parent.

Lots of things make for a crap parent, it just seems it's the things particularly associated with the least privileged in society that are rounded on with the most venom.

chocfest · 09/04/2008 10:14

Why does this touch a raw nerve with you so much meemar.

The benefits, council estate and loads of fathers bit? Because I see people talking about KM like this but not ALL benefits claimants.

Please enlighten

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 10:14

it is not an 'allegation' but I am stating what I have read

if you grow up on one of these estates, with bad role models all around, it is difficult to hoist yourself out of there and move

maybe her whole family down the line have lived on these estates, as will her children etc etc

edam · 09/04/2008 10:16

Right, so someone somewhere described it as a sink estate. And that is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? And that makes Karen Matthews a bad mother?

Rubbish.

JeremyVile · 09/04/2008 10:17

Chocfest - maybe it's not a raw nerve as such. Maybe just a dislike of the nasty, gleeful generalisations and falsehoods being bandied about this thread? Just possibly?

figroll · 09/04/2008 10:17

I don't like the career benefits claimants whether they live on council estates or have multiple births, or live in a hole in the ground. I object because I am paying for them through taxation. My children lose out so that I can pay for the children of others. It is called the Welfare State and some people, quite frankly, are just taking the piss.

SparklyGothKat · 09/04/2008 10:18

I just think that SM couldn;t have been very clever because she believed that this would work (if what is being said is true, of course) The police are very clever, and worked it all out quite quickly. I just feel sorry for Shannon

edam · 09/04/2008 10:18

Why don't we just string up everyone who lives on a council estate, who isn't married to and living with the father of their children, who (horrors) has children by different men, anyone who is poor, anyone who looks as if they might be on benefits (because you can tell just by looking at them, obviously)...

Figroll - There are many countries that dont have welfare state. Perhaps you'd be better off in one of those?

figroll · 09/04/2008 10:19

I don't feel sorry for Shannon Matthews, I am glad that they got her out of that hell hole that she had to call home. May be now she can start living her life.

Foster care/children's homes are crap, but they are better than being abused by your parents.
