Are you going to vote for Boris Johnson? If so, WHY???????

Because I know voting for Ken yet again is tantamount to inviting a benign dictatorship (wish Labour would field a different, viable candidate) but Boris Johnson ??? He is a buffoon with no relevant experience. At least Paddick has run a police force. (& no, editing the Spectator does NOT count).

But I am really really worried that he'll get in. Bye bye Oyster & cheap bus fares...

Why don't the tories parties put up proper candidates?

You don;t have to read the Socialist Worker to support Ken- you just have to give a shit about London.

And while we're mud slinging, how about mentioning Boris and his lovely articles about 'watermelon smiles' and 'piccaninnies', not forgetting the articles where he called the Stephen Lawrence enquiry a 'witch-hunt' (the same enquiry that found the Met guilty of institutional racism).

What a nice, friendly, loveable guy he is!!

donnie · 27/03/2008 13:53

don't know what 'icckle' means but the rest of your post is worryingly hysterical ffj. However I am quite pleased at the idea of the Socialist worker still being printed, does Tariq Ali still write for it? he'd make a lovely mayor too.

I have no problem with 'Islamists'in a general sense.

donnie · 27/03/2008 13:53

tariq ali was on desert island discs the other day - very classy, tasteful selection it was too.

EffiePerine · 27/03/2008 13:54

Oh dear. Haven;t read whole thread but am wet liberal Paddick supporter atm - DH is big Boris fan (apparently he's more intelligent than he looks , neither of us can stand the idea of voting for Ken...

marina · 27/03/2008 13:56

I had forgotten what he said about the Stephen Lawrence Enquiry . All the more reason to conclude he has not the faintest idea about London outside his Central Comfort Zone (I live very near to where Stephen Lawrence was murdered and apparently very close indeed to the homes of two of his "alleged" killers).
I do agree MI. Ken has become a bit monstrous in recent years, so the fact that the Tories are fielding a grotesque against him is sort of a relief.
Why no votes for Brian? I rather like him . If we all voted for him we'd have to put up with neither Boris nor Ken.

marina · 27/03/2008 13:57

x-posted with Effie, waves orangely

EffiePerine · 27/03/2008 13:57

me

EffiePerine · 27/03/2008 13:58

more a sickly yaller

I am all for voting in the most boring candidate - I can;t see the problem in electing someone competent

marina · 27/03/2008 13:59

At least he had a proper job in recent years effie, although I know opinions vary as to how well he did it
Maybe it is partly relief that we don't have Spooky Simon of Southwark as candidate

florencefosterjenkins · 27/03/2008 14:00

sigh - the last resort in debate is to accuse someone of hysteria...like I said previously, intellectually redundant.

Ken I'm sure however much he despises the Evening Standard didn't have a problem with it when it paid him to be their restaurant critic.

And not supporting Ken doesn't mean you don't give a shit about London. Quite the opposite.

motherinferior · 27/03/2008 14:01

Marina, you have now ruined my day with visions of SS

EffiePerine · 27/03/2008 14:02

I'm not entirely convinced, just can;t see myself voting for either alternative. Sigh. And in the meantime DH is leafletting furiously and filling the house with Boris memorabilia

marina · 27/03/2008 14:03

Not used bike seats I hope, you poor woman effie

EffiePerine · 27/03/2008 14:03

we have a Boris wrist cycle band going to interested bidders before DS strangles himself with it...

donnie · 27/03/2008 14:03

oh yes the 'piccanninies' comment. How very multi racial of Bojo, I had forgotten as well.

Izzywhizzy · 27/03/2008 14:05

Anyway, as of today, we've all got one less option on the ballot paper. Damien Hockney (One London candidate and officially on record as saying that he would seriously consider having buttock implants) has pulled out of the race citing a media blackout on his campaign.

Shame (snigger).

EffiePerine · 27/03/2008 14:05

I am not convinced that bright blue silhouettes of Boris looking a bit puzzled are going to win over the voters in Hackney. Mind you, respect to DH for backing the most unlikely candidate in a Labour borough

pooka · 27/03/2008 14:05

Just did a google search on boris, because had forgotten about the whole apology to the city of liverpool business.
IT gets worse! He was asked to apologise to the people of papua new guinea for linking them with cannibalism and chief killing.
Marvellous. It would be like having the Duke of Edinburgh as London's international representative.

donnie · 27/03/2008 14:06

yes I thought that Pooka, especially with some choice 'slitty eyes' or 'corner shop' comments.

I don't mind Brian Paddick, Marina. At least he has some expreience on the shop-floor as it were. He'll be my 2nd choice. But there's no point putting him as 1st, given that he doesn't stand a realistic chance, even with Elton's money behind him.

foxinsocks · 27/03/2008 14:10

Ken and Boris are as bad as each other really.

foxinsocks · 27/03/2008 14:13

and I have to agree, not supporting Ken (which I don't) does not mean you don't give a shit about London.

Ken managed to isolate a large part of west london when he decided to introduce congestion charging with no motivation other than 'he just could'. Parts of east London were just as congested but he knew that was where his key voters were situated.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 27/03/2008 14:18

No to Boris. But Ken? That smarmy grating voice. Urgh.

Mind you - at least Ken does what he says he is going to do
