Red Bull suspend woman who accused Christian Horner of inappropriate behaviour

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/68501426

Jesus wept. That poor, poor, woman.

The leaked texts clearly show it was an abuse of power & position by him.

How TAF is it now the woman that is in the wrong?!

There has been some discussion from reputable F1 journalists that they're fake. WhatsApp automatically capitalises the start of a sentence, and Horner typically uses capitals but the messages don't. And the screenshots are from an old version of WhatsApp.

But the fact that Horner hasn't denied the images at every turn tells me more than that and IMO they are real. And that does seem to be the prevailing view in the F1 media, although obviously everyone is being very careful with how they phrase it.

Edited

Please go on to the web browser version of WhatsApp and tell me if the sentence are capitalised?

Or, go to settings and uncheck the button that says ‘Auto-capitalisation’, just above the one that says ‘show corrective suggestions’

Good point about web WhatsApp.

Re the autocorrections, the journalists were saying that Horner does usually use capitals - but of course that may be him using more formal language with journalists than with a PA he's slept with.

I personally believe the messages are real, I was just giving the arguments I've head for them being fake.

wizzywig · 07/03/2024 18:21

Looks like geri is sticking around with him then

Mikki77 · 07/03/2024 18:22

If the women had lied during the enquiry surely they would have suspended her right away? Why now?
Why is no one from Red Bull saying that the text messages are fake?
Something stinks. CH should step down. Appalling behaviour all round.

In employment terms this is a separate issue.

I’d say 30% of grievance cases end up digging up something about the complainant that could be considered a disciplinary. (Been in senior HR for best part of 20 years.)

grumpypedestrian “Red Bull are known for being incredibly brutal in getting rid of people”

To which people are you referring? If you mean ‘drivers’, then I’d put it like this “RedBull have sponsored far more up-and-coming young drivers than any other team, and they have have introduced far more drivers into F1 than any other team”. If, after half-a-season (approx 10 races) a new driver is underperforming, RedBull sometimes let that driver go. BTW, If you mean ‘staff other than drivers’, RedBull’s staff retention excellent - so you are mistaken.

She is an employee of Red Bull GmbH, not Red Bill Racing.

The investigation conducted by a KC that cleared Horner was done so by Red Bull GmbH, not Red Bull Racing.

“Jesus wept. That poor, poor, woman.. The leaked texts clearly show it was an abuse of power & position by him.”

That ‘poor, poor, woman’ is suspended on full pay (approx £70k/year). Have you read the leaked texts? If so you’ll realise that only some were leaked, notably none that were sent from her to him. Why do you think that might be?

MzHz · 07/03/2024 19:00

My boss screamed in my face at a meeting. After over 5 years working with him. He’d been rude to others in the past, but never with me. Until he did. He was getting weirder and weirder and then turned on me. It was bad.

bad enough for someone else to take him to task about it

he tried to discipline me for not going on a Christmas hamper drop off to a client. I put in a grievance.

people who asked me if I was ok, people who spoke to him to tell him that he was out of order ALL LIED. I lost my job, I lost all my confidence and all contact with people I’d known and worked with for years.

I did nothing wrong to any of them.

took the fuckers legal, spent 4 years (thanks Covid) taking them the eve of tribunal, then we settled

it cost a LOT of money and I didn’t get back what we’d spent, but we spent LESS than them and it must have been really stressful for them as they handled it so badly all the way along. They lied ans I caught them out on it every time.

i am saddened for this woman if all of what she’s saying is true, saddened but not surprised.

Horner's 'let's move on' statement shows he is clearly used to getting exactly what he wants. Can you imagine a woman trying that one?

I have read the texts, yes.

I accept that it's not a full transcript of every conversation but the general tone of it comes across as her not being v interested & him being inappropriate.

Honda sound like they are waiting to cast judgement. Come on Honda, be more moral / ethical than RB!

During one F1 season Mercedes had to rescue a woman from the Red Bull part of the crowd because she was being abused, they let her stay in their garage for safety. Red Bull, Horner and Verstappen have always been arrogant and awful.

This was at the Red Bull Ring in Austria - nothing to do with the 'Red Bull (racing) part of the crowd'. That's not really how Grand Prix crowds work.

Startingagainandagain · 07/03/2024 20:25

Very silly move from them.

She now just sell her story to the tabloids and it will blow up even more.

As for Geri: very silly girl to stand by her sleazy partner.

iwafs · 07/03/2024 20:36

I do think CH is a dirty dog, for sure.

But the complainant - I am not entirely sure what the complaint is about. It seems as though she is aged possibly about 35yo, so not a naive 20yo who was coerced, and it seems she willingly had an affair with him. Whilst that is filthy behaviour on his part for sure, I am not sure if it warrants him losing his job - which he is apparently very good at. If she was in any way unwilling, that makes him a sexual assaulter or rapist - but there isn't suggestion of that is there?

I'm not defending him at all (yuk), I'm just saying that I can't see enough for him to get fired. Many men have affairs and don't get fired. Morally it's gross, but not legally.

She made a complaint, which was not upheld, presumably because he didn't break any laws/rules (but was very badly behaved).

Erdinger · 07/03/2024 20:44

The text transcripts have large parts missing . I imagine Red Bull have suspended her as they suspect she was responsible for leaking the drive to the public . Most large corporates would do the same

it’s not the affair that’s the issue. It’s him appearing to push it, from a position of power (at one point he has striped her travelling with him when her role is a travelling PA), when she has made it clear she isn’t interested.

ballsdeep · 07/03/2024 20:49

And let’s be honest, if THAT picture was flying around the internet, you’d soon be calling it fake if it was!!!

This. He has abused his position and power, as well as bringing the company into disrepute. Surely that is gross misconduct, no?

Apparently not, in Red Bull’s view.

This is the corporate world all over. Female reports a senior male sex pest. Female gets shot.

Appalling. Literally doesn’t matter what he’s done- they are looking for any technicality or mis-step from her to screw her over. I’m not usually one for mass boycotts but this is surely a good reason to boycott red bull.
