Mumsnet in the Times

Here's a nice article about Mumsnet - make way for the newbies.

And blimey don't Justine and Carrie have a lot of children?

OP posts:
TheHonEnid · 16/03/2008 20:23

it wasnt the actual posters that made me cringe

it was the fact that there was a list

hotcrossMonkeybun · 16/03/2008 20:23

but I'm doing that and IS NOT WORKING

katierocket · 16/03/2008 20:23

Can't be bothered to read through 600+ posts. Lovely article about the lovely mumsnet. Good to see Cod getting the recognition she so richly deserves and MP.
Actually MP I was meaning to thank you. I have had an utterly indescribly shite week and the one thing that made me smile was your round up. Awesome

Boco · 16/03/2008 20:25

I really don't understand the problem here - why be cross with the people chosen?

It's just a selection, could have been any of dozens of interesting or funny people, if it wasn't sour grapes, it's starting to look like it now.

WideWebWitch · 16/03/2008 20:25

No-one said you're 'not good enough' LL. Unless I missed a post somewhere.

Aitch, sorry if I misunderstood you but that#s what you seemed to be saying - and I wasn't 'taking offence' - I was politely making a point. Big difference I think.

messagedeleted · 16/03/2008 20:25

im feelling a trifle got at.

expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 20:26

Every time you feel ire for Caitlin Moran, envision her over a toilet, hurling through her nose, eyes all teared up, spit trailing out of one side of her mouth, all sweaty.

WanderingTrolley · 16/03/2008 20:26

What happens when you do it Monkey?

expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 20:27

I agree, Boco!

themildmanneredbunny · 16/03/2008 20:27

expat-are you wearing your ugly shoes?

Carmenere · 16/03/2008 20:27

This thread is getting very ugly. CAT CM if you want to get personal.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2008 20:28

Actually, it's entirely representative of MN to me.

But, I can say that, having a similar taste in posters as LV/CM obviously does.

Hunker, Cod, Aitch, LL, MP are all posters I admire, am great friends with on and some off board.

They are posters I look at for the fun, witty, intelligent, caring, amusing threads.

They are always on my radar. I guess it depends on who is on your radar. I'd certainly not think twice about an OP that say Soapbox, WWW, Enid etc had started because they arent folk I gravitate towards, lovely as I am sure they all are. They arent really regulars now anyway, AFAIK. Not as much as once was anyway.

I think it's hard to say an article is wrong if it's based on a POV or perspective. It simply doesnt match everyone's interpretation. But, that's exactly what life is like.

Some folk think Maeve Binchy is their kind of story teller, for example. However, she makes me want to eat her books through boredom. It's all about a persons interpretation appealing or not, innit?

Carmenere · 16/03/2008 20:29

Sympathy for you Expat.

hotcrossMonkeybun · 16/03/2008 20:29

fuck all WT

WanderingTrolley · 16/03/2008 20:30

Cod I don't think it's a good idea to be mentioning trifle near expat.

Don't feel got at. We can have a game for newbies only: spot cod. You can change your name and we can invite newbies to recognise you from The Times. Do NOT mention Alan Partridge. It will be very inclusive and welcoming and no one will have a fight at all.

expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 20:31

No, mmj, my sister made me feel bad about bringing them so I am wearing my black Faith boots and the Fly of London heels.

I'm trying to eat some ice cream just now.

But it just feels like it's stuck in my throat. And all I can think of is one time when I wrote this article at university for the paper and interviewed some bullemics and one told me ice cream was easiest to barf back up.

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 20:31

ahh that's nice VVVDDVDVDVD

may I say that you are the ONLY MNer that I've ever had on my MSN

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 20:31

And VVV had to mention Maeve Binchy!

Oh, god!

themildmanneredbunny · 16/03/2008 20:32

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 20:32

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww expat

Oliveoil · 16/03/2008 20:33

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 20:33

I like it cod

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/03/2008 20:33

Ah thanks VVV, that's nice and personal.

expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 20:33

She told me Oreo cookies were hard to 'splurge and purge' on and felt rough coming back up.

I haven't really been able to eat them since.
