Mumsnet in the Times

Here's a nice article about Mumsnet - make way for the newbies.

And blimey don't Justine and Carrie have a lot of children?

OP posts:
Solitaire · 16/03/2008 18:16

I am a newbie, encouraged by the Times article to join MN. As someone with no idea or preconceptions as to what MN was about, I thought it presented the site in a positive way. Whenever something is covered in the media someone is going to get upset that they weren't involved. However surely the important thing is that more people find out about it and join. God knows no bugger gives you a handbook how to be a Mum, so most of us appreciate any help we can get that isn't the contented little baby book, or some 'expert' with no children making us feel were the worst parent ever.

had a good laugh reading the posts on his discussion

Cam · 16/03/2008 18:20

Is that you Justine

ahundredtimes · 16/03/2008 18:20

Welcome Solitaire - though this does now lead me on to wonder whether there is going to be an influx of Times readers and what that will mean. . . .

Foxy and MB are right. I've no idea what they've said but they are almost certainly correct.

ahundredtimes · 16/03/2008 18:21

LOl Cam

Blandmum · 16/03/2008 18:21

I (heart) 100x, you always make me laugh

ahundredtimes · 16/03/2008 18:22

[swoon]

Solitaire · 16/03/2008 18:23

er whats wrong with Times readers, could be worse, could be Daily Mail readers

VanillaPumpkin · 16/03/2008 18:23

Welcome Soltaire

Lol Cam and 100x

VanillaPumpkin · 16/03/2008 18:24

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, no no no no no no no DM readers

WanderingTrolley · 16/03/2008 18:24

Nice posts squeaver and Solitaire - I was thinking that if I were a newbie I don't think it would put me off. Can't be sure, obv, because I don't remember seeing much of mn in the press pre GF thing, and I certainly didn't post much to begin with, but I don't think I'd've hidden under the computer if I saw one of their posts (unless I was eating Smarties)

That's true of anyone isn't it, mb? I can say the same of the drunkards dahn the pub aristocrats amongst my social circle.

That's the spirit, Solitaire!

Blandmum · 16/03/2008 18:27

I always think that MN is a bit like the catholic church, happy for converts, but they don';t elect them Pope on the first day.

IYSWIM

Waits for a comment about the Catholic church being too patriarchal and MN not being like that

Go on, you know you want to!

SheikYerboutisEggHunt · 16/03/2008 18:28

No you are worng, MB

The Catholic church is too patriarchal and MN is nothing like it

Will that do?

Blandmum · 16/03/2008 18:30

Thanks Darl, I knew I could rely on you!

Solitaire · 16/03/2008 18:34

So if MN is like the Catholic church do you all dress up in fancy robes. they didn't mention that in the article!!!

PS I feeling welcome already, thanks all!

WendyWeber · 16/03/2008 18:37

cod, aitch & lapin

(mp bringing up the rear)

ahundredtimes · 16/03/2008 18:39

LOL. I see MP is setting the tone with her pink snood, whilst all others have opted for the pale blue - that will be Cod setting the fashion tone with her strident feminist dislike of pink.

TheHonEnid · 16/03/2008 18:40

am that mp gets kudos for fanjo

my my my word

princessmel · 16/03/2008 18:41

Ok Solitaire has proven that newbies feel welcome.
My mum is DM reader so I've been brought up all WRONG by Mn standards.

expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 18:41

fanjo is indeed Enid's word.

ach, well, another thread i completely missed and now it's too long for me to read it.

Tis true.

mp's fanjo belongs to Enid

princessmel · 16/03/2008 18:42

WT

TheHonEnid · 16/03/2008 18:42

I think the naming of names is totally wank

[leaves mumsnet YET AGAIN]

princessmel · 16/03/2008 18:43

I have visions of Enid carrying MP's fanjo around in an ethical re-useable bag.

WanderingTrolley · 16/03/2008 18:44

Don't forget to take mp's fanjo with you. We don't want it lying around here.
