Mumsnet in the Times

Here's a nice article about Mumsnet - make way for the newbies.

And blimey don't Justine and Carrie have a lot of children?

I'll pack it into my sholly.

tortoiseSHELL · 16/03/2008 18:45

Hmm, don't really like the naming names, and specially don't like the comment that morningpaper 'sets the tone' of MN. I think that's just untrue.

[puts on unamused hat]

ahundredtimes · 16/03/2008 18:46

Oh Enid, don't go AGAIN.

The article is really saying that MN is as good as its posters and that is true. Here, they then said, are the sort of people you might meet.

This is why ONE person has joined since the article, Solitaire. She alone finds the idea of the forces wife who gets things done and the strident feminist with an interest in moisteuriser somehow attractive. We shall be watching you with interest Soliataire.

I find any group of women having a laugh and not acting their age attractive. For gods sake I live in a male domintated house and need to escape the testosterone

Oh LL! I was joking! Nobody is a portrayed in The Times I don't think? I think Cod is having a nervous breakdown over being called a hardened feminist.

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 18:55

nono I do not take responsibility for Fanjo

Although (If I am allowed to blow my own fanjo) I think I WAS the first MNer to get the word into a respectable politico rag (Prospect) and broadsheet (The Observer)

I mean I was joking at the portraits as painted - they don't seem like any of you. I for one have never noticed anything remotely innocent about you.

Swedes · 16/03/2008 18:57

I don't think MP sets the tone for mumsnet although she does set the tone for the round-up which is often full of rude things, double entendres and all things slapstick - but not representative of my mumsnet at all. I often think - what a shame that she missed all the classy humour.

Anyway, best get back to my final draft of How to Make Friends and Influence People In Cyberspace.

ahundredtimes · 16/03/2008 18:57

That's two grins LL. Which is a lot for me. My neck muscles are hurting with the urge to make sure you didn't think I was having a pop at YOU.

WideWebWitch · 16/03/2008 18:57

Enid, agree fanjo is your word, definitely.

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 18:57

Yah I don't think many (any?) of my responses were used at all either

And indeed not many of my responses were used by another paper last that quoted me extensively with words that I didn't actually use

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/03/2008 18:58

Gosh does it say MP sets the tone for mn?
Not true imo

There are about fifty three mumnsetters I know who were asked whether they would mind being featured in that article and they all declined.

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 18:59

(although my responses wouldn't have been used because I couldn't remember anything about anyone)

What do you mean I don't set the tone? I've just bought this new I-Tone for the purpose....

WanderingTrolley · 16/03/2008 19:00

From now on we should all put

fanjo©Enid

Swedes · 16/03/2008 19:01

It should be called the fanjo round-up - I think that would be fitting.

morningpaper · 16/03/2008 19:01

Look it's supposed to be an AMUSING ARTICLE with IRONIC CARICATURES

It's not a blardy MPhil Thesis

Just put it in the Recycling box and leave it out for the council

@ not being in newspaper

Swedes · 16/03/2008 19:07

Do you think there's a danger that Mumnset will get too big? There is something nice about seeing the same people popping up all over the place - it feels like a proper community. There must be a tipping point.
