I watched a BBC interview just now and what a vile, horrible man he cam across as. I admired the interviewer who kept to her points.

the really worrying thing is how many young teenage boys who follow and admire him and agree with his views.

I am an actual researcher. Real research means taking information from a wide range of sources and being objective and questioning everything, including your own prejudices. Watching YouTube videos which confirm what you already believe is not ‘thorough research.’

One thing that immediately puts me off finding out anything more about Andrew Tate is that his followers tend to be semi literate.

Thank you for your sanity.

It seems like the Brexiteers and Anti-vaxxers have moved onto a new hobby horse, and it's AT. They all have the same traits of grammatical errors, blaming the BBC for everything and 'doing their own research'.

Unfortunately it's like a cult and they won't be shifted from their views. Their group-think gives them a sense of belonging. That's much harder to shift even with facts and evidence than other less tribal viewpoints because it makes them feel important and part of something.

People who use social media cleverly to harness people vulnerable to these kind of cults to support them know this very well. They just have to appeal to the idea that they're the only ones who know the truth; that the BBC and MSM are spinning lies about them; that they need to foreground opinions-presented-as-facts rather than actual facts; and that any people with opposing views are leading us to a state of moral weakness.

"The world wants men to... accept that women are equal when they aren't"

And you're trying to say he does not promote misogyny, violence against women and rape culture?

Rapidtango · 02/06/2023 07:29

All these 'women' who have recently joined MN to defend Tate Hmm

Are you aware that boys and young men are listening to his misogynistic crap and girls and young women are being badly treated because of it? How does that make Tate a good role model? Or have all the boys/young men just misunderstood? If so, Tate's not a very good influencer is he? He is a bell end though.

Am gobsmacked anyone can defend him, particularly a woman. Although I doubt anyone defending him on here is a woman tbh.

BillyNighysWife · 02/06/2023 07:30

@Bananarepublic agree that the constant attacks on the BBC are worrying. If there is any conspiracy I am prepared to believe it sometimes seems to me it’s a conspiracy to destroy the BBC.

This country is no longer respected in the world as it once was. Our economy and our politicians are seen as second rate. But there is a universal regard for the BBC. Ask anybody from outside the U.K. what they admire most about this country and they will tell you that. Not the royal family, not the NHS but the BBC. It is very difficult for a broadcaster to be impartial and yet the BBC comes close to it and produces really good quality programmes, they are among the best in the world at this. Proof of its impartiality is that people from every side of the political spectrum say it’s biased.

In my lifetime I have seen the NHS deliberately run down, now people are talking down the BBC too. I find this particularly upsetting when it’s being done by people who can’t write properly and whose idea of research is watching YouTube videos of people moaning about their shared inadequacies.

I'm a neurotic mess of a hormonal pregnant woman and on whole MNs have been very kind at calming me down over certain concerns I've had. (I've older DC, I'm not a young parent anymore by anymeans) but I started watching AT things to see if my teen ds would be influenced by him, luckily my dc thinks he's a "total wanker", which pleases me.
However I don't disagree with everything he says which is problematic, because he's not an irrational all rounder, he's got some very reasonable views.
Just not on women. And that for me is how he's become so famous.
When he says things about society being unsafe etc, i can't disagree.
When he calls his partners "bitches" and they ultimately have to obey him, it makes me sick to think ill be raising my daughter around men who'll have potentially be influenced by this massive prick.
His brother, another ego inflated gobshite said about women's safety something along the lines of, "if a man decides to attack a woman, there isn't anything she can do regardless of self defence classes so my daughter will be taught to not go anywhere without a man".
That's made my neurotic little brain spend hours googling the best forms of martial arts for my unborn DD, my DP is saying, "lwren, she's not even born, she doesn't need to become an MI5 assassin until she's at least 3" (the fool, she'll be villanelle by 2 at the latest and that's final!)
I was raped by a stranger in my teens and I did put myself in a vulnerable position, (drunk, alone, wandering around lost at night) and its taken over 20 years to accept it wasn't my fault, this whole (paraphrasing) "don't want to be killed or raped don't put yourself in the situation" which is to an extent correct, don't make yourself vulnerable, but surely to the Lord of all common sense we should also let men know raping us isn't okay, just because we're in a vulnerable situation?!

Things are going backwards for women each day and I'm grateful I get to raise my sons to respect and care for women.
My eldest DC went to a party this half-term and a female pal got very drunk, it was at her house and she desperately needed the toilet, so he went and knocked on her mums bedroom door, apologised for waking her up but asked for her to help, if he carried his pal upstairs.
I'm glad there's those kinds of kids around after the horror stories we hear so regularly and I hope he and his friends who are similarly respectful are the majority, but looking at the AT and his gang of merry incels, its very concerning.

Sorry that was so long, if you read it thank you! I'm obviously on one over the AT/TT brigade 😂

I agree with this too.

Unfortunately, it's so pervasive now that even usually sensible people are subscribing to the BBC is all-evil trope.

Of course not everyone in it is perfect. Of course, there are both mistakes made and systemic problems in the organisation, like any long-running large organisation. But I do think, unlike other groups like the NHS or the police service, the BBC is trying to examine where it's gone wrong and improving its processes.

However, overall we are much stronger with its scrutiny than without it. Which is why certain sectors of the establishment is so keen to destroy it. It's so much easier to control an organisation that you can own, buy shares in or influence the person who does own it, than a public corporation.

In addition, other media outlets, like Rupert Murdoch's papers or the Beaverbrook or Telegraph Groups, actually have a vested interest in the demise of the BBC.

It's depressing but it seems like it's an inevitable slide downhill. And people will only realise, like Brexit, that they were lied to and what has been lost, once it's too late.

TheProcrastinati · 02/06/2023 07:52

@Deathbyfluffy

i entirely agree with you. My last post was generated by chatGPT and was a feeble and inane attempt to bait the incels and cultists who seemed to have descended on the thread en masse.

he is indeed a huge bellend.

PetitPorpoise · 02/06/2023 08:01

All parents need to be aware of this toxic man.

He's very pervasive: as a 36yo mum, I've had his bullshit clips appear in my feeds in amongst funny videos about parenting toddlers, interiors and football. I suspect it's the football that has pulled him into my algorithm.

It's worrying that you (claim to) have a daughter.

BillyNighysWife, agree 💯 with your post about the BBC. We won't know what we had 'til it's gone (well, some of us do.)

let us not rush to condemn individuals based on preconceived notions or media portrayals. Andrew Tate, like any other person, is complex, with various aspects that define him. It is essential to look beyond the stereotypes and engage in thoughtful discussions before passing judgments.

Thank you for posting the full video that makes him look even worse. I showed it to my teenage lads last night and they said it's always the insecure boys at school that like him. Luckily they don't need to trick girls or treat them as a different species as lots of their friends are girls and they respect each other.
I hope you find a way to feel better about yourself without putting down others. And to lead to a lot of young men having terrible long-term relationships if they don't see their female partners as equals.

Thepleasureofyourcompany · 02/06/2023 08:13

I couldn't care less what the 'truth' is

I like the BBC and think AT is an ugly bellend, thick as mince.

Roselilly36 · 02/06/2023 08:21

I wouldn’t give someone with his attitude airtime, but unfortunately he has a great following among young males, which is so annoying, my sons 22 & 20 think he’s awesome, they don’t agree with his attitude towards women though.

Oh god, it just gets worse

some roles are just gender specific it's the way it's always been, doesn't mean you need a man to do it but it takes the pressure off the woman

Gender specific roles? Its like the last 60 years have completely passed you by.

Franticbutterfly · 02/06/2023 09:24

I think that the issue is that although he is abhorrent, some of what he says makes sense. Most of it is misogynistic crap, but there are a few things in there that aren't. He has filled a vacuum created by those who say all men are bad. It is a shame that there aren't more positive role models for young men, if there were he wouldn't get the (undeserved) attention that he receives.

ChocHotolate · 02/06/2023 09:26

He reminded me of Trump in a strange way. The way he was desperate for control of the interview and angry when he was challenged.

This is a good point. AT is vile, but he does appeal to a certain group of young men, and that makes him dangerous. Why he appeals is complex, but I think there’s some truth in the argument that some men feel demonised and he plays to that.

I know those young men aren’t on mumsnet, but I see that demonisation on here. Take sexual assault. I know men are the perpetrators but when that fact tips over into “all men” territory that’s when those young men who (frankly) aren’t capable of understanding what that means will feel they are being demonised.

there are young men out there being told they are bad, they are to blame, society doesn’t value them. Their role isn’t clear any more and they’re looking around for some validation. He provides that but with a massive dose of misogyny.

State of it! Where exactly did his chin fuck off to?

I suspect he doesn't, despite feeling it's his absolute entitlement, and that's why he's such a fuckwit.
