We had boxer dogs growing up. We were always left alone with them. They slept on our beds etc. We didn't know any different.

I live on a council estate, but I wouldn’t dream of owning any kind of dangerous breed of dog, and I certainly wouldn’t allow any child in my care to be in the same room as one either.
Reason being, I’m not irresponsible or stupid. So please don’t tar everyone from a council estate with the same brush.

I agree it should be a crime if your Dog kills or harms someone. It might make people think twice about which breeds they get, training them properly and not having them in homes with small children if they know they will be prosecuted.

Livpool · 01/02/2023 09:35

We need stricter dog owning laws. This is becoming so common

louise5754 · 01/02/2023 14:27

Seems to be lots of posts about this now. I didn't see any when I wrote it.

@Cheesetoastiewithsauce I was taking the piss in response to what someone said. You know, there's a certain "type" who has these breeds. Fucking screaming snobbery.

Elsatellsa · 01/02/2023 19:38

Harsher punishments for these parents that bring these dogs into homes with their children, it's their fault. What an absolutely horrific way to die, she must have been so scared bless her heart, she deserved better. People who endanger their children to have a status dog are actually disturbed.

It's largely true though let's be honest. If this is ever going to addressed its important people aren't worried about offending people but instead look at the facts.

GorillaGame · 01/02/2023 19:41

@userxx - This is true though. There is a certain type.

Horrendous. Dogs need to be licenced.

And how would that address this problem specifically?

It is. And manslaughter prosecutions have happened

TheCatch · 01/02/2023 19:45

That small child must've suffered indescribable pain. Horrific way to die and it will haunt her poor parents.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/02/2023 19:45

Wow I’m shocked it wasn’t a golden retriever in a Victorian terraced house …..let’s stop worrying about calling a spade a spade for the sake of the next child !

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/02/2023 19:47

What breed of dog was it?

RoseAndRose · 01/02/2023 19:48

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/02/2023 19:47

What breed of dog was it?

Still being established, which suggests it's a cross breed or mongrel

MontyK · 01/02/2023 19:49

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/02/2023 19:47

What breed of dog was it?

It was an American Bulldog. That the parents re-homed from a rescue.

I'll save all of my sympathy for the poor child. Her parents have displayed a startling lack of judgement and are complete idiots as far as I'm concerned.

userxx · 01/02/2023 19:49

@Elsatellsa well clearly it caused offensive as it was deleted and it absolutely was not meant in that way.

I agree, sorry. These are overwhelmingly working class children being brought up around bull terrier type dogs. We can’t pretend that isn’t the case when it so clearly is. I know a few families like this and trust me, no amount of ‘education’ will make them believe their Tyson/Jaws/Zeus is actually far more dangerous to their kids than any potential paedo that the dog is supposed to be protecting them from (yep, they really believe these dogs are ‘guarding their kids’ as well as being a tough looking accessory). Frankly these people aren’t very bright and that often means never second guessing themselves or considering that they may be wrong.

The only thing that will stop them is banning these breeds altogether.

userxx · 01/02/2023 19:52

@Flaunch That's fucking harsh.

60smusic · 01/02/2023 19:53

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/02/2023 19:47

American bulldog, they got it 6 weeks ago from a rescue

This is exactly why reputable rescues do not rehome to families with young children

Police have stated it was a family pet. No arrests have been made though which is outrageous but not surprising, the justice system in this country is a joke.

A family pet or their family pet?
