Police statement is that it was "a family pet"

I assume that means the girl's family (though it might also cover pet of someone else's family, or their own wider family, that they were minding.

My friend had to jump through several hoops to adopt a rescue guinea-pig. The rescue centre was really strict, they had to provide a lot of information and photos.

So how come an American bully-type from a rescue centre has been housed with a small child? Utterly wrong on both sides.

Local media is suggesting it was too dangerous to catch and euthanized by injection so it was shot. If experienced police thought that, what on earth was it doing in a family home?

Still, nothing will be done. This country is obsessed with dogs. So we wait for the next child to die.

And the next.

And the next.

And...

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 01/02/2023 20:03

I read it as "not a stray dog".

At this moment in time I don't think people should be saying the parents are shit when we have no idea whether it was their dog or even a dog they permitted into their garden. Dogs can and do get into other peoples gardens.

Pretty sure no one is going to try and catch the dog, a gun is usually used on an out of control dog.

It's largely true though let's be honest. If this is ever going to addressed its important people aren't worried about offending people but instead look at the facts.

I agree. You can’t get away from that fact.

@Cheesetoastiewithsauce I was taking the piss in response to what someone said. You know, there's a certain "type" who has these breeds. Fucking screaming snobbery.

but there is a certain type- thick, uneducated people who want to show how tough they are

Are we seriously pretending that this isn’t the case?

I don’t think there is any suggestion that this animal came from a rescue centre.

”A rescue” is sometimes used to describe a second hand dog that no-one wants. The bully type dogs seem to get passed around - if you look online you’ll find them up for sale quite quickly, sometimes described as “great with children”.

GorillaGame · 01/02/2023 20:15

Example here - the first one I came across but there are so many of them. Strangely enough, the photos of the dog in this particular advert are all taken from a distance. This is the closest shot there is… almost as if the person taking the photos didn’t want to get to close to it.

Seems like whoever sold/passed on that dog (if this indeed turns out to be the case) to a family with a young child bears some of the responsibility for this. Some.
The photo of her on the news - such an adorable-looking little girl. Heart-breaking.

It seems its one of those things that people know is true but it's for some reason its not acceptable to say.

No suggestion except several news reports that state the family got the dog from a rescue centre you mean?

louise5754 · 01/02/2023 20:20

One neighbour told MailOnline that Alice was attacked by what is claimed to be an American bulldog that the family had got from a rescue centre. It is reported that the family only had the dog a matter of weeks - possibly two months, and even as few as six weeks.

OP posts:
GorillaGame · 01/02/2023 20:20

Show me where @FurAndFeathers and I’ll take that back - I’ve only seen it described as “a rescue” according to the neighbours who were quoted, who were vague on how long the dog had come from and where exactly from.

BlackFriday · 01/02/2023 20:20

Regardless of the circumstances or reasons the family came to have that dog in their home, the bottom line is they've lost a child in the most horrific of events. They deserve our sympathy.

userxx · 01/02/2023 20:21

This is a proper bull breed bashing thread, there are many responsible owners out there, you can't say it's one type of person. Back in the day it was German shepherds and Rottweilers who were the demon dogs.

You'd think wouldn't you.

louise5754 · 01/02/2023 20:23

I feel sorry for the dogs too. Passed around. No
Exercise. Screaming kids.

They do for losing their child yes. If it was a dog they have brought into their home they also deserve to be charged, their child would still be here had they not. Its not a secret that these breeds have the potential to harm or kill children, heck its happened several times in the last year alone. There's no excuse for someone wanting one overriding the responsibility of keeping a young child safe. People should be able to talk about this in order to try and ensure measures can be put in place to try and protect children if their parents won't.

NocturnalClocks · 31/01/2023 22:48

Why do people have those dogs at all??

Although all dogs can bite the little dogs are less likely to do the same damage.

In the same way all cutlery can be used as a weapon, but while you may let your child play with a wooden spoon, you wouldn't let them play with a sharp knife, and the bully breeds are the sharp knives of the dog world.

I don’t have sympathy tbh- I have sympathy for the poor innocent child.
would you have sympathy for a parent who left the door open onto a busy road with a toddler left downstairs alone, or left a gun with a child- it’s complete and utter negligence. They should be prosecuted imo.
also this wasn’t a baby who wouldn’t really have known what was happening- a 4yr old- I feel physically sick at the thoughtz

Another one?!?!?!

Relatives of mine have gentle type dogs but I still don't leave anyone unattended, for the dogs as well as the children. I have a 3year old and an infant school child and the thing I hate most is when we're out and owners letting their dogs run at my DC and jump up at them.

I could not agree more. Idiot dog owners.

Come on to fuck!!! A mum has just her baby girl and your spouting your gob off calling her an idiot! Im sure she feels awful without being called names!!!

Sky news saying it was a pit bull husky cross.
A dangerous mix.
That poor little girl.

Well the OP just posted one report above. And Google exists. But if that’s tricky for you, here is another link:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11699809/amp/Armed-cops-swoop-Milton-Keynes-house-dog-savaged-four-year-old-girl-death.html

so yes there’s definitely “a suggestion” that the dog came from a rescue centre regardless of whether or not that actually turns out to be true

GorillaGame · 01/02/2023 20:33

Okay @FurAndFeathers - I don’t think that will turn out to be true, I thought you had a source that confirmed it was from an official rescue centre.
