9 year old girl has been shot in Liverpool

Just watching this on the news. Poor little girl. 9 years old and lost her life. Just awful. RIP little one.

A man and woman also injured. The gunman is on the run apparently. What is happening to our world?

Did this happen overnight? I heard about the 28 year old shot in her home in the swan but 9?! Just awful 😢 What is this world coming to?

A nine-year-old girl has died after being shot in Liverpool.

An unknown man was reported to have fired a gun inside a house in the Knotty Ash area at 22:00 BST on Monday.

The girl was shot in the chest and died in hospital, a man also suffered gunshot wounds to his body and a woman was shot in the hand.

Merseyside Police has put a huge cordon in place as officers hunt the gunman. Assistant chief constable Jenny Sims said the shooting was "truly shocking".

That poor little girl and the adults also injured. A child should be safe in their home. I hope they catch the gunman soon.

It's just hideous news, and only a couple of miles from the shooting at the weekend when a young women was killed.

In addition to the two shootings, there was a fatal stabbing of a woman in her 50s in Kirkby.

And that poor woman had lost her 16 year old brother to gun violence after he happened upon a gang. Just awful, thoughts to all of them.

I noticed the BBC got a young local councillor on this morning, no word from the police. They really need people to come forward, this seems a very thoughtful approach. I hope it works. Scary how gang mentality puts keeping quiet above the life of a child.

Yes, I think gang or family related is a strong possibility, owing to the police saying the culture of 'not grassing' mustn't apply when it's a 9yo, and I think there's a very good chance that will resonate and lead to information.

I also noted that the BBC article said the girl's next of kin had been informed, which suggests that at least one parent was not present.

Horrific. Poor little girl. Hope the gunman is found very soon so no other family has to go through this.

We need criminals to think of child-murderers in the same way they think of paedophiles, not deserving of protection/silence.

The further information released definitely makes it sound gang related . I hope that if that man being chased knows the identity of the gun man he tells the police.

He will know, or at least will know the reason which will help narrow it down though. I doubt he will tell the police.

From the liverpool echo The 35-year-old man who had been chased suffered a number of gunshots to his upper body. Whilst Olivia lay dying, he was picked up by his friends who took him to hospital.
