Just watching this on the news. Poor little girl. 9 years old and lost her life. Just awful. RIP little one.

I can’t stop thinking about this, it’s so horrific, poor poor child and mother. I just imagine how terrified my daughter would be if someone burst into the house, never mind with a gun. May she rest in peace. The 35 year old needs locking up, he’s as bad as the gunman in my eyes.

RIP little one.. what a cruel horrid world we live in.. with these awful people running around reckless. I truly believe if you carry a gun, you should be sent to prison instantly for 20 plus years!!

"But am I the only one who on hearing "Knotty Ash" read out on the news has their brain filled with Diddymen & Tickling sticks?"

Yes, you're the only one.

The man shot must have done idea who was chasing him & should be held responsible if he doesn’t fully cooperate with the police. The poor child & her poor family

Absolutely, he will either know exactly who it was or if not have a very good idea but will be a coward and not say a word. I wish he could be sentenced for murder for not co operating.

"But am I the only one who on hearing "Knotty Ash" read out on the news has their brain filled with Diddymen & Tickling sticks?"

Yes, you're the only one.

Actually, no she's not. If you are not local to Liverpool, and are of an age to have watched prime time telly in the 1960s and 70s, then it's a very strong association. But in the context it's the sort of thought you can't help having and immediately suppress. (And she is the one who chose to post it, rather than suppressing it)

I suspect the strength of the association forms at least part of the reasoning why BBC (for example) altered it's early coverage from using that area name and used street name instead

Because it's just not the right juxtaposition.

Just because you can post what you think doesn't make it remotely appropriate

I saw a BBC article late last night which says police have yet to question the man who was being chased. Right now, we don't know who was chasing him or why, but it seems reasonable to assume he was in fear for his life. If he's in the sort of circumstances that mean talking = death, then the incentive not to talk must be pretty high. Liverpool Echo at least has strongly hinted about links to organised crime

Latest news says they have been given a suspect’s name by 2 different sources

JenGin · 24/08/2022 10:41

They've got him. It sounds like he was on bail because the breaking news said he's been "recalled to prison".

toomuchlaundry · 24/08/2022 10:48

They've arrested the man who was shot

fannyfan · 24/08/2022 10:54

@toomuchlaundry yes it looks like he was on license from prison and running around getting shot at broke his probation guidelines so he's going back to prison to finish the sentence.

I don't think he's the one they think did it

JenGin · 24/08/2022 10:55

Oh sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick there.

toomuchlaundry · 24/08/2022 12:00

Let’s hope he talks but I bet he won’t

EdithWeston · 24/08/2022 16:30

Latest BBC article, in which they name the man who was being chased, and who was also shot. They do not say who named him, just that it wasn't the police. As it's the Beeb, who will have fact checked and checked with lawyers, I'll link it.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-62658221

He was out on licence, and has been recalled to prison (where he was serving a sentence for burglary) because of "poor behaviour"

Article also says (unsourced) that police have been given the same name from two different sources for the gunman. They need time to do their work to see if the information is correct, but it's good to note that, on the face of it, people have come forward

JenGin · 24/08/2022 16:33

If anyone has seen Little Boy Blue you'll know how long this process can take and as it drags on frustration will increase and cries of "why aren't they doing anything" may ring out. The docudrama very much makes it clear that a hell of a lot of work is going on in the background, though, and it's important to gather all the evidence possible before acting otherwise the scumbags may get away with it.

Yes, yes she is. The only one to take the time to post it. You don't need to spell out the association for me, I already know. Why you'd defend that post is beyond me

Yeah, unfortunately for me I know him so won't need info from you via the BBC

Trainbear · 26/08/2022 07:58

Any description of the person the police are looking for as the shooter? As in physical characteristics?

I wasn't defending the post, which should be clear if you read all of what I said a about being not right, nor remotely appropriate

(and the initial post had been deleted by the time I posted, mine was in response to other posters who didn't know the association, rather than those who deplored, as I do, that someone posted it)
