Leiland-James Corkill: Laura Castle guilty of murdering baby www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-61479420

Why is it that it is increasingly women who seem to be perpetrating these hideous crimes?

This poor wee mite was removed from his birth mother when he was two days old. I don't imagine Social Services and the Courts do that without very good reason. His foster mother looked after him for most of the first year of his life. His birth mother may well have loved him but she hadn't built the bond with him that his foster mother had.

I have to disagree. Carrying your baby for 9 months and then giving birth, the holding and feeding after birth and for the next two days is more than enough when you are the biological parent.

The birth mother has had multiple children removed before this child. I find this so desperately sad, for her, for the other children who have lost a sibling they've probably never met... awful.

Love how people will just spout shit that they could quickly fact check.

Isn't it so much more satisfying to imply the facts fit your worldview without the hassle and complication of checking?

What gets me is beating a baby? Beating a child any age (and adults of course) is inexcusable but how fucked up in the head must you be to look at a literal baby and hate them so much (and it really sounds like she hated him) that you hit them, regularly? For doing normal baby things? Pure evil.

What makes it worse somehow is that she and her husband were going through the adoption process, they could have changed their minds at any time and someone else would have fostered the baby, no doubt about it.

whatever the reason this lovely, gorgeous little boy was removed from his birth family, I hope they are getting lots of support, especially his birth mother.

apparantely they had discussed giving him back but were waiting abit longer to see. In the meantime she killed him.

Its hard to understand why she wanted to adopt him, this was a choice, she didnt need to do it?

She probably thought this would be the child they allowed her to keep.

I don't get how they got through the screening to adopt. I know smacking of older children was more normal at the time they grew up but the fact that they saw it as acceptable to "leather" a baby suggests that they themselves must have had a dysfunctional upbringing. Did they just lie to social services in order to get what they wanted?

She lied about her alcohol use, and having therapy for mental health issues and anger management. No-one bothered to check her GP records during the adoption screening process, they just took her word that she had no problems. Insane that it isn’t standard procedure for medical records to actually be looked at. In this case it would have prevented so much suffering.
