link here - I reckon this is Sky News jumping the gun a bit, but blimey!

Assuming it isn't murder (it can't be, he's a CBeebies presenter!), what a terrible thing to happen! (Well it's terrible if murder as well, but you know what I mean!)

Thats about sums it up, I think!

pyjamagirl · 04/01/2008 09:51

The police are saying they are beginning to look at it as not suspicious .

Sky news been overly dramatic again

Poor mark

SlartyBartFast · 04/01/2008 09:52

oh i like him

terrible.

Macdog · 04/01/2008 09:52

Daily Mail story

tortoiseSHELL · 04/01/2008 09:53

I know - I really hope it wasn't suspicious, but do think it is wrong the way names are released before they decide whether there is evidence or not - the mud sticks!

Awful to lose your partner and then be arrested over it...

Poor him - and what dreadful dreadful 'reporting' from Sky. They should be ashamed

wessexgirl · 04/01/2008 09:54

Sounds like Sky have jumped the gun big time - horrible for him and everyone involved.

Had to lol at the Daily Mail - he was involved in lowbrow Celebrity Wrestling show - so he must be dodgy, eh?

nutcracker · 04/01/2008 09:54

I met him once, had my pic took with him and kissed him on the cheek.

edam · 04/01/2008 09:55

Bloody hell, I hope reports of initial suspicions proving ill-founded are right. Ds loves Smart on CBBC. And Mark seems so nice - not that that proves anything but YKWIM...

tortoiseSHELL · 04/01/2008 09:56

Ds2 is terrified of Mark - he screams everytime he comes on the screen (especially Big Picture Little Picture).

If they do decide it is not suspicious, I really hope they properly clear him - awful to have a shadow hanging over your head like that.

Terribly sad about the woman's death, anyway.

wannaBe · 04/01/2008 10:05

.

sky crime correspondent Martin Brunt gets about doesn't he? [hmmm]

madamez · 04/01/2008 10:11

DIsgusting reporting. Very sad for this chap but I bet if he hadn't been a nicey-nice Cbeebies presenter everyone would have been going, oh he must have done it, no smoke without fire etc. And probably will anyway.

hippipotami · 04/01/2008 10:11

Sad news about the woman's death, and terrible for Mark to be arrested over it when it now appears not to be suspicious.

We are huge Mark fans in this house, but I am to read he is 42!!!!

tortoiseSHELL · 04/01/2008 10:13

madamez - i hate that ' no smoke without fire' thing - that is precisely why names shouldn't be made public until there is a little more evidence.

OP posts:
PortAndLemonaid · 04/01/2008 10:23

Yes, but then you get "A man in his 40s has been held for questioning over the death of a woman whose body was found in a bath in North London. The body of the woman, whose identity has not been released, was found at the Islington home of children's TV presenter Mark Speight (42) and his long-term partner Natasha Collins." which is just as bad, really, assuming any level of reading-between-the-lines-ness on the part of your readership (less gloaty, though, I suppose).

Flllightattendant · 04/01/2008 10:25

Fuck!

Not that mark, he's so lovely!

Sorry about the swearing.

SlartyBartFast · 04/01/2008 10:30

uk.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUKL0444851420080104

a different angle from Reuter's.

edam · 04/01/2008 10:35

'remains in custody'. Oh dear, doesn't look good. I suppose she could have had a seizure and drowned, but police officers at the scene will have an idea whether it's suspicious or not.

Macdog · 04/01/2008 10:41

Update on Daily Mail site:
"Scotland Yard said her death was being treated as "unexplained", but sources said it was a suspected drug overdose."

Macdog · 04/01/2008 10:42

Never thought I'd be quoting Daily Mail

Macdog · 04/01/2008 10:44

BBC news

Blu · 04/01/2008 10:44

Interesting that the main 'news' is that a tv reporter is being questioned rather than a woman is dead...and that each report starts with him and gives him a bigger biog than her - even though she was a tv presenter too, and she's definitley dead whereas he is merely being questioned.

How our obsession with 'celebrity' warps values....
