Meadow got struck off but was able to appeal the decision in a court of law and was reinstated.

This is good news.

Sorry NAB, I completely agree. Why is a court allowed to overrule the rule body for doctors? Surely they are best placed to decide who ought to practice.

About time too! Royal College of paediatrics' attitude is shameful, though. From what I heard on the Radio 4 news, the head is still trying to defend the indefensible. And they had a paediatrician on who basically said the GMC is biased against doctors and smeared parents ? yet again.

The Court of Appeal ruling in Meadows was bizarre - the judges found that the GMC cannot examine the behaviour of expert witnesses - said that was a matter for the courts. And what exactly have the courts done about expert witnesses who have been exposed over poor practice? There have been a series of pathologists, for instance, who have been responsible for miscarriages of justice (not related to child abuse) including one who lied about his qualifications.

Wish the GMC had appealed to the House of Lords, it's an important point that apparently expert witnesses are now outside the reach of the bodies that are legally responsible for regulating their professions. Not just doctors.

He will appeal, I'm sure of it, simply because he cannot acknowledge that he did anything wrong. In his statement today he maintains that everything he did was in the best interests of the child. How that sits with having secret files on sick children that other HCP's cannot access I do not know.

Edam if the other paed on radio 4 was Dr Samuels then they have worked together for a long time and I believe that he too has been the subject of GMC hearing. He was on the televiosion this evening pretty much saying that it was bad news from a child protection POV.

that might have been the name, didn't catch it. But there are a whole coterie of Southall and Meadows supporters who are convinced of their righteousness and probably fear the exposure of those two will mean their own practice has to be re-evaluated.

So - the Royal College of Paediatricians are happy to believe that it is likely and reasonable for a parent to be accused of killing their child/ren, but not happy to believe that it is likely and reasonable that a paediatrician may have deep-seated issues that would lead him to accuse a parent of murder without proper justification?

Apparently he went after this mother because of gossip that was passed on to him when someone overheard her talking about her son at the hospital she worked at as a cleaner.

The people that are rallying around him are disgraceful, pretending that this jeopardises child protection. The whole point is that he has been accusing innocent people on no evidence whatsoever except his doctor as god superpowers. I hope he's been stopped for good this time.

About bloody time too! I've been saying that he and Meadows need to be struck off for ages now!

I believe that Sally Clark died because of them! Whatever ultimately caused her death was brought about because of pain and anquish over what she went through... I ache for her and the other ladies who have lost their children and then been accused of killing them, it's too much to bear!

Sorry, that was a bit of a rant and I accept that I do not know fully all the facts, just what I've seen reported.

Oh, that story is so appalling. He was a consultant paediatrician, he knew about reflux, yet he deliberately made false accusations against those parents that have ruined their lives as well as their son's. I read a little about this family somewhere else, they moved house to escape the whispering campaign but everywhere they went Southall's smear campaign followed them. So, for instance, the poor lad couldn't persuade people to come and play with him. And this is one of the 'luckier' families to cross his path - at least they didn't lose their boy.

And the Royal College and his mates dare to defend him?

Sky News went further than most of the other news outlets and talked about the experiments Southall conducted on babies with breathing difficulties, including depriving them of oxygen and making them breathe carbon monoxide. Let's hope this is the start of a slippery slope downwards for him -

The Attorney General is reviewing Southall's secret files at the moment. Parents have been complaining about Southall for years and what he did to their children, only to be labeled child abusers with MSBP by him.

I guess it's whether they can collect enough evidence on him. I agree though, bb - evil seems to be an appropriate description of him.

I am at the number of horror stories that are now coming out...how many MSBP mis-diagnoses have been made by him whether directly or under his influence. He is a clever eloquent man & many colleaugues & other professionals have been persuaded he is right over the years & they have followed his advice in all good faith.
