So do you think there are really people with children who have weekends in the country and then have lines of coke when the kids are in bed?

Because according to the Sunday Times there are.

They must be on a different planet to me though.

My first son's father and his previous family used to have 'parties' every single weekend - they drank wine every evening but come the weekend, or a midweek visitor, or any excuse really, they would crack out the charlie. I was offered several times but didn't partake basically because I am a girly wuss but actually their children were always upstairs asleep or whatever and I just kept thinking 'who's in charge here then?'
Actually he was a pretty dependant drinker but it did seem to be the usual thing to take coke.

They were in their late thirties. Friends of all ages though.

I know I know (I need to point out that have never resorted to class A drugs in these 8 yrs of nature overdose )

HairyIrene · 12/11/2007 10:22

yes
can easily beleive it
all drugs permeate all strata of society...

but i also think crappy article
&
who is in charge for emergency

and the very same goes for drink too!!

LoveAngelGabriel · 12/11/2007 10:26

Yes. I know plenty of social snorters. Not my scene, but I don't judge too heavily. Have you ever sat stone-cold sober in a room full of people on their third bottle of wine? They're bloody worse than people on their third line of coke. Coke makes people think they're interesting when they're not. Alcohol makes people think they're interesting and funny (and that they are talking quietly) when they're not.

Enid · 12/11/2007 10:28

yes there are

nappyaddict · 12/11/2007 12:41

there can still be someone in charge for an emergency as long as they don't get totally trashed. i will often have a bottle of wine of an evening but i would still be capable of seeing to ds in an emergency.

VictorianSqualor · 12/11/2007 12:45

No matter what hard drugs you take, whether it be crack, coke or smack, you don't know exactly what is in it, one line could kill you, the same is not going to happen with wine, so even if you are planning on 'not getting too trashed' then it can be taken out of your hands.

Anna8888 · 12/11/2007 12:54

Yes. Those people exist.

There are dealers around here (very affluent part of Paris) dealing to smart mothers in nice cars with expensive clothes.

LadyTophamHatt · 12/11/2007 14:01

I know someone from my previous life who asked if it would be wrong to include a photo of another person snorting coke at their wedding.

They didn't know whether to put the photo in the wedding album!!!!

They have children too.

The last time I saw these people was way before I met Dh, so over 12 years ago and they were all doing coke etc then. I just wonder when they'll ever grow up!!

GrapefruitMoon · 12/11/2007 14:05

I read the article too and was - I don't even like to drink too much now (hangovers and small children don't mix!)

noddyholder · 12/11/2007 14:32

I know quite afew who do this Not me of course (not anymore) Being under the influence of any drug alcohol included does make you cope less well in a crisis but not totally impossible I'm sure. Not recommending it btw just an observation.

OrmIrian · 12/11/2007 14:39

Don't use coke. But I do drink wine. Often before the DCs are in bed. Have been known to have the odd toke (very very rarely these days) - after they've gone to bed.

It's the weekends in the country that me more.

noddyholder · 12/11/2007 15:02

I think if you object to intoxication in the presence or charge of children then you have to be consistent.Being blind drunk and unable to function on the night and the next day is as bad as a line of coke or whatever takes your fancy.Lots of hypocritical views on this thread

Hulababy · 12/11/2007 15:06

I don't have weekends away in the country and I definitely don't do drugs - so we are not in The Sunday Times special little group.

I do drink alcohol and I do drink when in charge of my DD. I drink when she is awake and when she is asleep. I do not get drunk. I am always capable of looking after her. In case of emergencies I am always capable of calling an ambulance.

stripeymama · 12/11/2007 17:01

Agreed re. consistency - illegality aside, being off your tits is being off your tits, however you get there. Just because coke (or whatever) is illegal does not mean that it makes you more incapable than alcohol. In fact, I'd be more likely to get into a car with someone who had had a few lines of coke than who had had too much too drink, though I am not suggesting either.

And anyone who leaves their stash where children could get hold of it is a knob.

allgonebellyup · 13/11/2007 17:14

Its no worse than drinking IMO
