So do you think there are really people with children who have weekends in the country and then have lines of coke when the kids are in bed?

Because according to the Sunday Times there are.

They must be on a different planet to me though.

F**k I'm obviously officially an old fart now

oliveoil · 11/11/2007 21:36

music exec with coke

there's a shocker...

some of my friends still do it but I would rather eat my foot tbh, so overrrrrrrrrr

and who deals with the children the day after? It is bad enough with a red wine head at 7am

JeremyVile · 11/11/2007 21:36

There are, of course, people like this but I don't think it's nearly as prevalent as is made out. Thank christ - boring, self obsessed feckers.

niceglasses · 11/11/2007 21:38

er, yeah I think so, not as prevalent tho.

There was an article a couple of weeks back too about 'doing coke on a Saturday, eating orgnaic veg on a Sunday'.

Drug of choice I think for the affluent mcs.

Rather have red wine mesel like.

Bink · 11/11/2007 21:42

It is interesting that there are posters who're vouching for the reality of this. As I too thought - I haven't seen someone with a wrap for 20 years.

Though I found Pearl Lowe's story of herself (which was basically this to the extreme) totally convincing (and sad). I guess I thought it likely in a fashion/music/film people context, but I don't come across it at all in my line of commerce.

(I do recall a friend of dh's from bus. school producing a spliff a few years ago, & the mutual internal raised eyebrow which went round the room. The unanimous line was, Well, I think I'm done with that stuff, nowadays.)

'Though I found Pearl Lowe's story of herself (which was basically this to the extreme) totally convincing (and sad). '

I did, too, especially the way she described the day she decided to stop using.

Man, things could have gone so wrong, with permanent consequences.

niceglasses · 11/11/2007 21:47

Oh God, don't start me on Pearl Lowe. The woman is an arse.

If I see one more glossy article of her and her retreat in the country and her battle with drugs, drink, eating.......I'll run to the hills with me knickers on me head.

Urghhhhh

PinionsAndHerPumpkinClub · 11/11/2007 21:50

oliveoil · 11/11/2007 21:56

expatinscotland · 11/11/2007 21:57

oh, yes, that girl is gorgeous.

VictorianSqualor · 11/11/2007 21:57

I had a BBQ when the world cup was on, and had all the girls and the kids over as their DP's had gone out to watch the footy. It was all great until about 7pm when I wanted to get mine to bed and I heard them discussing going to get some gear and come back.
A couple of them were so drunk I actually threw them out of my house and kept one of their daughters with me, she was incapable of looking after her.
Needless to say these people are no longer my friends, I was disgusted.

oliveoil · 11/11/2007 21:58

she is in the Agent Provoc ads

anyhoo, off to bed for me

I am so rock and roll as you can clearly see

nappyaddict · 11/11/2007 22:34

yes. as long as they aren't getting out of control then that's ok. they could get a taxi or ambulance to a and e.

VictorianSqualor · 11/11/2007 22:40

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, I havent read the whole thread, but is it just people taking coke in their house thats the problme, IMHO it is fucking disgusting to have any drugs in your home your dc's could maybe get a hold of.
Surely that is why having a few glasses of wine when they are in bed is not comparable to snorting a few lines off your coffee table?

nappyaddict · 11/11/2007 22:48

its no different to having a bottle of vodka in your house though is it.

expatinscotland · 11/11/2007 22:49

'its no different to having a bottle of vodka in your house though is it. '

Well, according to the police and the law and the social workers who might become involved in your life should you be caught with Class A drugs in your home, it is.

VictorianSqualor · 11/11/2007 22:50

Yes, it is, a child has to drink more vodka, than take drugs to get a serious possibly fatal reaction.
At the most we have one bottle of wine and a few beers in our fridge, for my DC's to be severely ill off that they need to have been at the fridge for a bloody long time drinking it!

JeremyVile · 11/11/2007 22:53

I think it is different.

If a child got hold of the vodka and managed to open it, they're not likely to swig more than a sip (and would probably spit it out) as it would taste rank.

If they got a wrap of coke and licked some, it would also taste rank but cant be so easily spat out - some would be ingested and is far more potent in small doses.

I dont know, but would hazard a guess that the effect of coke on a small child would be more severe than the effect of alcohol.

nappyaddict · 11/11/2007 22:54

surely that's why people have locked cupboards though? you wouldn't leave standard medication lying around and i'm guessing any sensible person wouldn't leave coke lying around either.
