Well

Smacking is still legal in the UK... why is it so when I know so many are against it? On mumsnet anyway? Is it such a terrible thing, or just an unfortunate disciplinary tool?

yes well I shall not try to be funny again, I have learned my lesson.

harpsicorpsecarrier · 26/10/2007 20:59

I am mildly amused by being called harpsicorpse I must say
this is such a weird place isn't it?

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 26/10/2007 20:59

Adding an emoticon makes something a joke, otherwise you can't read the tone of "voice".

I shall try not to laugh again, having learnt my lesson.

I was being lazy and couldn't be arsed to type the Carrier bit too......Which bit was a joke?, I've totally lost the plot.

harpsicorpsecarrier · 26/10/2007 21:01

oh I know but I am notably sardonic dragon
emoticons are for the proleteriat, surely?

oh hold on

harpsicorpsecarrier · 26/10/2007 21:03

I was attempting to be a bit sarky when I said a "considered walloping"
I was taking the piss out of the semantic knots people tie themselves into over this subject.
I have been on these threads before, once or twice
often people say " a loving tap"
which is a horrible expression imho

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 26/10/2007 21:07

No idea. I'm too thick to understand your long words.

No one seems keen to explain why they're so hung up on "you wouldn't do it to an adult" when you wouldn't do any of the other "punishment options" or a whole host of other parenting stuff to one either.

Anyhoo, I'm adding this to my ignore list I think because I'm happy with my parenting and my happy, confident, secure children are testament to that.

ThePhantomToiletFlusher · 26/10/2007 21:07

Ahhh, I get you now.

ITs because people can't see you smile when you're saying it. Whenever I try and post stuff tongue in cheek, people have come back all serious...I feel like shouting IT WAS A JOKE FFS!!!!

TerrorMater · 26/10/2007 21:13

Tongue in cheek needs a .

just makes me want to punch the screen.

But that's just me.

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 22:35

agree with soupy
i have older children and i think this is a different type of parenting than small child parenting
cannot remember smacking my 4 year old but i may well have
have not smacked my toddler
have smacked my teenagers

was beaten by my mother
abused by father
both of which shattered my world

the abuse that 'hurt' and 'damaged' me most never touched me
