Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

Jesus this is rideculous - would you ike to tell me what facts we can discuss because most of them are apparently made up anyway so are not facts.

Did someone make a new mumsnet god who can now decide what can and can't be said - I just had an opinion for Christ's sake - and I know I am allowed to post my opinions on here!

How very remiss of me. I am very sorry.

I thought this article was good.

"How will this story end? That's what makes it so grimly compelling: none of us knows. Until we do, basic justice demands that we presume the McCanns are wholly innocent. Common decency demands the same. For if they are eventually found guilty, there will be plenty of time for condemnation. But if they are innocent, to presume otherwise is to commit a second crime against people who have already suffered enough."

wannaBe · 12/09/2007 17:05

I think there's a mixture tbh.

this gives quite a good insight into what is being said in the media, and while some of it is still supportive, some is definitely more sensationalist than anything else, including the printings in one paper that claim Gerry Mccann isn't Madeleine's father.

According to this article, Madeleine was conceived by IVF, so I don't see how there can be a mystery about her parentage.

wannaBe · 12/09/2007 17:50

no neither do I. And that just proves the point that one shouldn't believe everything one reads in the papers.

HorribleHorace · 12/09/2007 18:06

BBC news are reporting that the McCann's are considering having independant tests carried out on the hire car. That should show the world they have nothing to hide, imo.

eleusis · 12/09/2007 18:07

Maybe they are hinting at a hospital scanda where the wrong sperm was used to fertilise the egg? Hey maybe it's the wrong egg too? In fact, maybe MAdeleine is an ALien and was sucked up back home to be with her real parents.

Tosh I tell ya... One night stand at the IVF clinic, I doubt it.

NAB3 · 12/09/2007 18:09

I don't understand why they have refused to answer some questions.

eleusis · 12/09/2007 18:11

Let's see if some one accused me of killing my child, I don't think I'd be inclined to engage in a friendly chat.

NAB3 · 12/09/2007 18:18

But if they are innocent they should be able to answer everything.

HorribleHorace · 12/09/2007 18:18

so what if she was concieved with donor sperm anyway? many children are....

(not saying she was btw)

lucyellensmum · 12/09/2007 18:20

oh my god, anyone who takes notice of a paper questioning madelienes parentage must be pretty niave, where was that printed? The Star??

I imagine the Mc Canns will have been asked some very leading questions that even if they had a rational explanation for an answer it could be twisted, i mean look how everything has been twisted so far - i would be keeping my mouth clamped too.

Pixiefish · 12/09/2007 18:21

Diving in and out to say that anyone who has seen photos of Madelieine and her aunt Philamena would never doubt they were related.

Right, I said I wouldn't post on here so I'm off

eleusis · 12/09/2007 18:23

Nab, on a purely rational leve I agree. But, really, if someone started accussing my of murdering my child I would be rational about it. I'd be emotional and tell them to fuck off. I image Kate and Gerry were a tad more composed.

wildwoman · 12/09/2007 18:23

glad you said that pixiefish I couldn't be arsed

ScoobyDooooo · 12/09/2007 18:26

Madeleine was actually an IVF baby muched longed for they waited 5 years, this was stated in one of gerrys blog posts.

Did anyone see the statement with regards to the fund?

Upwind · 12/09/2007 18:29

The nastiness of much of the speculation about this case makes my blood run cold. My colleagues discuss everyone involved with this case as though they were characters in Eastenders or contestants on a reality tv show.

There was an interesting article in the Indy today. comment.independent.co.uk/columnists_a_l/dominic_lawson/article2950327.ece

kookaburra · 12/09/2007 18:31

Can't see that M's conception has anything to do with the current events?
There is lots of relevant stuff coming out of th woodwork that deserves scrutiny- this parentage stuff is surely just unnecessary gossip. please don't give the cleaning-materials bullies any ammunition to sabotage this thread.

Pixiefish · 12/09/2007 18:34

wildwoman- neither could I but I was soooo struck by the likeness and so cross at that particular avenue of speculation

SoupDragon · 12/09/2007 19:00

Just saw this quote ont he TImes online (I think) where it was talking bout the possibility of the McCanns starting a new "fighting fund", not using the current "find M" one:

"Money is going to be a big problem I think. PR firms and law firms are not cheap..."

PR firms??? WTF do they need a PR Firm for and why should someone else give them money to pay for one? Personally I'm disgusted at this mercenary behaviour. "Ordinary" victims have to fund their f-ing fights themselves, what makes the McCanns so bloody special?

Upwind · 12/09/2007 19:05

I believe that initially they used PR to keep their daughter's disapearance in the news, the idea being that way anyone who saw her face might recognise it.

I have not seen any suggestion from any reputable source suggesting they were still using PR. Possibly some people with internet access forget that this is not a reality tv show where the characters involved are aiming to entertain the ghouls.

quint · 12/09/2007 19:13

So who actually talked about a new fighting fund - was it Gerry or Kate? If not more gossip so not helpful
