Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

Was thinking earlier how hard it must be for the McCanns today of all days. My thought are with them.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 08/01/2008 18:51

It has just been announced that the McCann's have given their go ahead to a film about their daughter being made. Only as long as it raises funds and awareness of her diappearance.

When are they going to find her?

DrNortherner · 08/01/2008 19:01

Did anyone watch that documentary - The abduction of Elizabeth Smart? She was a 13 year old girl, abducted from her own home (she was in bed) at knife point. She was found alive 9 months later. But during those months her Father and his brothers were questioned and treated as supects for a long time. They said when you are being questioned as a suspect you are tired, distressed casue you know it wasn't you and it is the worst thing ever, to be treated as a suspect when someone you loved and cherished has vanished. They then charged a local man who had a reputation for being odd. He collapsed and died in custody

Then she was found, with her captor.

What I am trying to say is, a child can be snatched and the attacker may not leave any trail behind. So police/media/public start plotting and throwing around accusations.

Untill Madeleine is found, we will never know.

Imo, she has been taken by a stranger and her parents played no part in it.

ScoobyDoo · 08/01/2008 19:03

I watched that documentary DrNorthener it was good to see but so so sad, actually alot of what was beinf done & things were very simular to the MM case.

I just hope they find Madeleine one day

DrNortherner · 08/01/2008 19:04

Yes I drew some comparisons too Scoobs. I did wonder if the McCann's had watched it.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 08/01/2008 19:09

Call me crazy but I still think she is alive but it will be a long time before we ever know what happened.

I often wonder how Ben Needhams' Mum has survived over the many years since he went missing.

ScoobyDoo · 08/01/2008 19:11

I am pretty sure they would have watched it, they are looking through the net & watching many things i think, i was on a website the other day & there was a post from Kate McCann's mum so it proved she had been reading said website.

I also think she alive Nabs not sure why just my gut instinct!

DrNortherner · 08/01/2008 19:11

I think her whole family are simply existing as oposed to living. It will effect the whole family forever. Nothing will be the same. Even if tghey get her back.

It's tragic.

wannaBe · 08/01/2008 21:59

but elizabeth smart was abducted by someone known to the family. A guy that had been working in the house.

I fail to see how they can make a film about this. yes if Madeleine had been found, if someone had been charged, but making a film about a child disappearing and... then what? A film would just sensationalize it even more.

I don't think we'll ever know what happened. Although it was reported on 5 live that police hav requested permission to come to Britain to question the friends again. It was also reported over the weekend that police have enough evidence to charge the parents and that this will be done once the friends have been re-questioned.

chikenmother · 08/01/2008 22:09

IMO one of the friends must know what happened. Most of this cases are related to close friends/family who do not confess at all unless discovered. One of the friends must have done it. And now they are silently wathcing the news...

ELF1981 · 09/01/2008 13:12

hoping they change their mind and do not allow the film to go ahead.

suzywong · 09/01/2008 13:14

all 1337+ posts, in a nutshell, please
Thank you

bundle · 09/01/2008 13:15

er
little girl went missing
lots of disagreement about where she is now/who's to blame for her disappearance/usual sanctimonious crap

donnie · 09/01/2008 13:18

pmsl that this pathetic thread is still being propped up. Talk about buzzards on offal......

donnie · 09/01/2008 13:20

I wonder what the McCanns had for breakfast today and if it will provide some sort of subtle clue as to their daughter's whereabouts - let's discuss in great detail.

bundle · 09/01/2008 13:20

and whether they've been for a poo donnie. don't forget that.

donnie · 09/01/2008 13:21

oh yes - definitely needs to be discussed as well bundle.

Oliveoil · 09/01/2008 13:23

chikenmother - I think you may be right, QUICK phone the police, they may have missed this avenue of investigation.

figroll · 09/01/2008 13:24

Well I think you have to agree that it is the McCann's wish to keep this issue in the news so surely it is logical that it will still appear here "In the News" and that people will discuss it.

It may not be terribly "pc" but it will continue to be discussed as long as the child's photo continues to be published in the daily mail/express, etc.

figroll · 09/01/2008 13:27

Yes very bored - but the papers don't seem to be.

Chamomile · 09/01/2008 13:30

Perhaps because they are paying Clarence Mitchell, their PR man, a salary to ensure that it does?

It really irks me when people post of the thread just to judge those who want to discuss.
Dont like it. HIDE IT. You have the option to do so and never be bothered by it again.
It is constantly in the papers and it is logical to be discussed.
Sorry, but if it bothers you, hide it, dont just moan about it, it is a waste of energy doing so.
