Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

I have to say I have just looked at the photo in its entirety (sp?) and it does seem like there is a man behind the slide - looking not disimiliar to Robert Murat at the hairline.

Anyone considered the idea that these photos may have prompted the police to turn their attention to Robert Murat (and his acquaintance).

How did these photos come to be on the web I wonder..interesting..

HorribleHorace · 17/09/2007 14:38

i thought so dinny but didn't want to say so

dinny · 17/09/2007 14:41

just hope they do not balls this investigation up and manage to track down the real perpeptrator/s. awful.

binkleandflip · 17/09/2007 14:43

If - and its a big if - that man is Robert Murat - I still cant believe that he is the perpetrator with the 'evidence' we have been privvy to so far ie nothing much

morningpaper · 17/09/2007 14:45

Re. Kate McCann's diary - her sister said she encouraged her to start one AFTER Madeleine disappeared, so that Madeleine could see how hard they had looked for her

So there won't be anything there about her losing her temper BEFORE hand

I still have doubts about Murat personally. The Portugese police are discounting Jane Tanner's sighting of a man walking away with a child because another witness said he didn't see Jane Tanner at the time she claims to have been walking away from her apartment. It seems a hell of a coincidence for her to see a child in pink pyjamas being carried away. Although the description was vague, it does match Murat.

I don't like the way this guy and Murat seem to be walking together alongside the police. It's well known that people who commit these kind of crimes often try and get in on the investigation - look at Ian Huntley - or re visit the scene of crimes.

Also several witnesses claim to have seen him that night. And the thing with the Russian was never explained. He says he hasn't seen the guy for years but yet he has contact with him via email and phone that very night

I don't know what Murat's involvment is but it's possible he acted as a 'courier' hence the lack of evidence against him. He may have just delivered her somewhere.

That is my theory anyway. I'll go and hide now

I am shocked at the casual way Robert Murat's 'guilt' is being discussed here. Why is it open season to 'slur' him on mumsnet while every statement issued by the McCanns is taken at face-value?

morningpaper · 17/09/2007 16:57

of COURSE he's dodgy

He's got a glass eye and he lives with his mum

OBVIOUSLY he's a pervert

why do some people feel the need to take the piss at every opportunity?

It has nothing whatsoever today with him having a glass eye or the fact he lives with his mother to suggests that people are that shallow is laughable imo.

Do you not find it odd that this man should be in a photo actively looking at the McCann children and then show up in a photo with Murat and the police?

totaleclipse · 17/09/2007 18:05

No-one has said he is a pervert either, just possibly conected to the abduction, for whatever reason she was taken.

fortunecookie · 17/09/2007 18:05

I'm sorry if it's not pc but that comment about the glass eye & living with mummy made me lol.

morningpaper · 17/09/2007 18:16

Gordon Brown also has a glass eye

totaleclipse · 17/09/2007 18:17

hmmmm

TellusMater · 17/09/2007 18:19

Isn't he looking at Kate McCann though (who was taking the photo)?

totaleclipse · 17/09/2007 18:21

Who'knows, he is wearing sunglasses. And who's to say kate is taking the picture, could be any one of thier friends, not that it matters.

TellusMater · 17/09/2007 18:26

Well, quite.

There are often strangers lurking in the background of photos taken in public places. Not all of them have a sinister motive for being there...

mumofabby · 17/09/2007 18:27

Having listened for months about this poor family and their missing daughter I can honestly say that I don't think for one second that either of the McCann's had anything to do with their daughter's disappearance.

I could'nt even begin to imagine what was going on in their minds when that lovely little girl went missing on what was supposed to be a lovely family holiday but now that they have been named as suspects I am just stuck for words. To think that anyone can point the finger at them is absolutely unbelieveable.

I hope that the whole family can stay strong and that little Madelaine will be found safe and well.

totaleclipse · 17/09/2007 18:28

Very true, however, you dont often have a guy in the background of a child that is abducted a few days later, then photographed with a suspect.

totaleclipse · 17/09/2007 18:35

even the portuguese chief inspecter is not happy

nappyaddict · 17/09/2007 18:47

is it true her blood was found in their hire car? cos someone told me today it was but i thought i heard on the news it was some other dna profile that wasn't blood.

Pabby · 17/09/2007 19:28

I read it was "bodily fluids" in the car

LIZS · 17/09/2007 19:30

na noone knows apart posssibly from the scientists and police what was found where , when and by whom, if anything, let alone whether it stands up to analysis. Anyone who claims to know more is speculating or rehashing gossip.

Pabby · 17/09/2007 19:32

...true enough....
