the body shop hq was in my home town of Littlehampton, she lived in the area too- nice woman, totally unscrupulous business woman (stole the idea for the body shop as was originally a joint venture!!! But made more of a go of it on her own imo!)
She did have an excentric style though- some of the buildings she commisioned were....... interesting!

She'll go down in history- for all her good work with animal testing etc. Was she ever on the honours list? i seem to remeber an OBE (i may be imagining it!)

RTKangaMummy · 11/09/2007 10:12

She was a DAME

She gave the money she made from the sale to charity iirc

Such a shame.

Businesswoman aside, she didn't just contribute money to 'good causes', she got out there amongst the charities she supported, many of which were marginal and largely unknown. I watched a programme once where she was in a women's refuge in an Arabic country. She was completely natural and knowledgable. She was a do-er.

Love that quote, LL

mylittlefreya · 11/09/2007 14:08

Never knew that quote was her, LL (dozy I know). An amazing lady, definitely too young to die.

"As someone who has lost my Mum this has had me blubbing dreadfullywww.anitaroddick.com/readmore.php?sid=681"

WideWebWitch · 12/09/2007 21:04

Oh Winnie, it's just made me cry too. She was born the same year as my dad, 1942. (died 2001), it's very sad.
